Chapter 9 - REBUILDING THE FORTRESS
In the weeks following the failed attack, the Moretti estate underwent a profound transformation. Viktor Vance’s network was completely dismantled by Alessandro’s forces, ensuring that no threat remained to haunt their future.
But the real change occurred within the walls of the estate itself.
The cold, silent halls that once felt like a stone prison were now filled with life, light, and laughter. Sophia was no longer the quiet housekeeper working in the shadows; she stood at Alessandro's side, managing the estate's philanthropic foundation and bringing warmth to every corner of his life.
Alessandro had changed as well. The cold mafia boss had learned to delegate, to trust, and to allow himself to feel. The walls he had built around his heart over decades had been completely dismantled by a fearless mother and a little girl with a plastic yellow cup.
One sunny afternoon in early summer, the estate garden was blooming with white roses and vibrant green foliage.
Alessandro stood on the terrace, watching Emma run across the lawn with Bruno trotting happily beside her. The massive dog, once feared by everyone in the city, was wearing a silly flower crown that Emma had carefully placed on his head.
Sophia walked out onto the terrace, carrying two glasses of iced tea. She stepped up beside Alessandro, leaning her shoulder against his.
"You're quiet today," Sophia said softly, smiling as she watched Emma.
Alessandro turned to her, wrapping an arm around her waist and pulling her close. "I was just thinking about the day I met you two in the courtyard."
May you like
"You looked like you wanted to execute everyone in sight," Sophia teased softly, resting her head against his chest.
"I was terrified," Alessandro admitted quietly, looking down at her with deep affection. "Not of the dog, or the chaos. I was terrified because the second I saw you standing up to me, protecting your daughter, I knew my life was never going to be under my control again."
