Chapter 6 - THE ENEMY AT THE GATES

While warmth grew inside the fortress, storm clouds were gathering on the outside.
Alessandro’s success had always drawn envy, but a rival syndicate led by a ruthless figure named Viktor Vance had been quietly trying to destabilize the Moretti network. Vance was a man with no honor, willing to strike at vulnerabilities rather than fight in the open.
For months, Vance’s informants had been gathering intelligence on the Moretti estate, looking for a flaw in Alessandro’s impenetrable armor. They found it not in his security protocols or his financial holdings, but in the sudden appearance of a young housekeeper and her little girl.
One evening, Alessandro received an urgent call in his study. His head of security, Marco, stepped in with a grim expression.
"Boss, we picked up chatter on the encrypted channels," Marco reported in a low whisper. "Vance knows about the girl and her mother. He thinks they are your hidden vulnerability."
Alessandro’s eyes turned cold as ice. The warmth that had slowly returned to his life vanished in an instant, replaced by the lethal, calculating leader he had always been.
"Increase the perimeter guards," Alessandro commanded, standing up from his desk. "Double the patrols on the north wall. No one enters or leaves without my direct authorization."
"Understood, sir. Should we move the mother and child to a safe house?"

Alessandro looked toward the hallway that led to Emma’s bedroom. The thought of sending them away—out of his sight, where he couldn't personally protect them—sent a sharp pang of anxiety through his chest.
"No," Alessandro said firmly. "They stay here. With me. This house is a fortress, and I will tear down anyone who dares to cross its threshold."
