Chapter 7 - THE PEDIATRIC WING

One year after the hospital incident.
The grand entrance lobby of St. Catherine’s Hospital was filled with fresh flowers, media cameras, and distinguished guests.
A large velvet curtain hung over the main wall of the newly constructed East Wing. Painted above the archway in elegant silver lettering were the words: THE DR. NAOMI PRICE PEDIATRIC & MATERNAL HEALTH CENTER.
Clara stood near the podium, looking elegant in a tailored lavender suit. Beside her stood Dr. Naomi Price, wearing her crisp white doctor's coat, looking tearful and deeply moved.
In the front row sat Arthur Vance, holding one-year-old Leo on his lap, while a trusted family nurse held little Maya, who was happily waving a small toy flag.
The Chief Hospital Administrator stepped up to the microphone.
"Ladies and gentlemen," the administrator announced warmly, "today we celebrate not only a state-of-the-art medical achievement, but the triumph of hope, courage, and true philanthropy. Please welcome the Chairwoman of Vance-Mercer Global, Mrs. Clara Vance!"
The audience broke into enthusiastic, thunderous applause.
Clara stepped up to the podium, her posture confident, her smile radiant. She adjusted the microphone, looking out over the crowd.
"Thank you, everyone," Clara spoke, her voice clear and resonant. "Eighteen months ago, I walked into this hospital facing the darkest, most terrifying night of my life. I was fighting for my survival, and for the survival of my unborn children."
The room fell into a respectful, silent hush.
"In that dark hour," Clara continued, looking directly at Naomi, "I was saved not just by medical skill, but by the fierce, uncompromising integrity of a doctor who refused to let evil win. Dr. Naomi Price reminded me that truth is a shield, and that a mother's love is an unstoppable force."
Naomi wiped a tear from her cheek, smiling warmly back at Clara.
"This center," Clara declared, gesturing to the velvet curtain, "is dedicated to every mother who has ever felt alone, scared, or powerless. May it be a sanctuary of hope, healing, and safety for generations to come."
Clara reached out, pulling the gold cord.
The velvet curtain fell smoothly away, revealing a breathtaking bronze plaque commemorating the grand opening, alongside a beautiful portrait of Dr. Naomi Price holding newborn twins.
The crowd erupted into resounding cheers and applause. Reporters flashed their cameras, capturing the moment for national news outlets.
Among the crowd of reporters stood Detective Miller, who walked up to Clara after the ceremony, holding a paper cup of coffee.
"Incredible speech, Mrs. Vance," Miller smiled, shaking her hand firmly. "Or should I say, Chairwoman Vance?"
"Clara is fine, Detective," she smiled warmly. "How are things at the precinct?"
"Quiet for once," Miller chuckled. "Although I thought you might want to know... Daniel Mercer tried to file another appeal from prison last week."
Clara raised an eyebrow calmly. "And?"
"The appellate judge threw it out in five minutes," Miller grinned. "He's officially exhausted all legal avenues. He'll be serving every single day of his fourteen-year sentence."
Clara nodded slowly, feeling a quiet, peaceful closure settle over her heart. "Thank you for letting me know, Detective."
"Keep changing the world, Clara," Miller said warmly, tapping his coffee cup against hers before walking back toward the exit.
Clara turned back toward her family. She walked over to Arthur, taking little Maya into her arms, while Naomi came over to swing Leo in a gentle hug.

"You built something extraordinary today, Clara," Naomi whispered softly.
"We built it together, Naomi," Clara replied, looking down at her daughter’s bright blue eyes. "And this is only the beginning."
