Chapter 10 - The True Heiress

Three months later.
The Vance estate had undergone a quiet transformation. The cold, suffocating arrogance that once filled its halls had been swept away. The high iron gates were open, and the sprawling lawns were being prepared for a massive charity gala—not for wealthy socialites to boast of their riches, but to launch the *Evelyn Carter Foundation*, dedicated to providing housing and legal aid to impoverished single mothers across California.
Emily stood in the grand master bedroom, looking at her reflection in the full-length mirror.
She wore a simple, elegant navy silk dress. Around her neck, the blue star sapphire rested against her skin, catching the afternoon sunlight that poured through the tall French doors. Beside the mirror hung a beautifully framed photograph of her mother, smiling gently down upon her.
A soft knock came at the door.
Julian leaned against the doorframe, dressed in a sharp charcoal suit, smiling warmly. "Arthur just arrived. He’s down in the rose garden, complaining that the gardener doesn't know how to prune the hydrangeas properly."
Emily laughed, a sound full of warmth and freedom. "I think Arthur just missed bossing people around."
Julian walked over, his eyes softening as he looked at her. "You did it, Emily. You gave your mother her name back. And you gave hundreds of families a second chance."
"We did it together," Emily said, taking his hand. "I could never have done this alone, Julian."
They walked down the sweeping marble staircase together into the sunlit foyer. The grand hall was filled with laughter, genuine smiles, and community leaders who had come to celebrate a new chapter in the Vance family history. Emily felt an overwhelming sense of peace. For the first time in her life, she had a home, a purpose, and a family.
