Chapter 5 - The Tiger Awakes

Back at Pacific Crest Medical Center, the atmosphere had transformed completely. The private floor was no longer under Holloway control. Twelve armed contractors wearing Bennett Global tactical gear guarded the perimeter, while three world-class fetal surgeons—flown in via private jet from Johns Hopkins by Ethan—monitored Claire’s vitals.

The bleeding had finally ceased. Noah’s heartbeat on the monitor had settled into a steady, rhythmic cadence.

Claire opened her eyes to see the morning sun filtering through the blinds. Sitting in the armchair beside her bed was not only Ethan, but Maya, who had landed in Los Angeles two hours earlier on the Bennett family jet.

Maya was twenty-two, with sharp eyes and her brother’s dark hair, holding an open laptop on her knees. When she saw Claire looking at her, she closed the computer, rushed forward, and buried her face in Claire’s sheets, crying softly.

"You're safe, Claire," Maya choked out. "I sent it to every network on earth. Everyone knows what he is."

Claire reached out a weak hand and stroked Maya’s hair. "You... you had the video?"

"I never trusted Grant Holloway," Maya said fiercely, wiping her tears. "From the day you married him three years ago, when he forced you to cut ties with us and sign that fraudulent prenup. For the last six months, Ethan and I have had private investigators tracking him and Madison. I tapped the gala’s security cloud three days ago. When he kicked you... I made sure every satellite on the planet recorded it."

Claire closed her eyes, letting out a breath she felt like she had been holding for three miserable years.

When she had met Grant, she had been young, naive, mourning the death of her parents. Grant had played the knight in shining armor, sweeping her off her feet, only to slowly isolate her, strip away her identity, and control every dollar she spent. She had endured his insults, his cold cruelty, and his open affairs, always telling herself she had to make it work for the sake of the baby.

*No more.*

"Ethan," Claire whispered, her voice no longer weak, but carrying a steel that surprised even her brother.

Ethan leaned in. "I’m here."

"In my vanity table at the mansion," Claire said, looking him dead in the eye. "Behind the false back of the jewelry drawer. There is an encrypted hard drive."

Ethan’s eyebrows raised slightly. "What’s on it?"

"Grant thought I was an ignorant trophy wife who didn't understand finance," Claire said, a bitter, cold smile touching her pale lips. "He used my laptop to manage his offshore shell companies for Holloway International. For two years, I kept a mirror copy of every illegal transaction, every bribe paid to state port inspectors, and the real tax ledgers he concealed from the IRS."

Ethan stared at his sister for three seconds, then let out a low, dangerous laugh.

May you like

"My dear sister," Ethan murmured, kissing her knuckles. "You didn't just survive him. You brought the rope to hang him with."
