Chapter 3 - The Transmission

Three miles away, in the penthouse suite of the Beverly Wilshire, Madison Vance poured two crystal glasses of vintage Dom Pérignon. She turned, wearing a silk robe, and handed one to Grant Holloway, who stood by the floor-to-ceiling glass looking out over the glittering Los Angeles skyline.
"You need to relax, darling," Madison purred, tracing a manicured finger down Grant’s shoulder. "Claire was hysterical. Everyone in the ballroom saw how unstable she looked. She threw herself at me, and you were simply protecting your pregnant wife from hurting herself. The board will understand."
Grant swirled the champagne, though his stomach churned with an unusual, sour unease. He remembered the flash of the smartphone camera outside the emergency room. He remembered the look in Claire’s eyes when her head had struck the marble edge.
"Marcus is handling the hospital staff?" Grant asked, referring to his chief legal fixer.
"Marcus has already paid off the charge nurse and the attending physician," Madison said dismissively. "Claire has no family left who matters. Her father died penniless, and her brother is a recluse running some logistics firm in Seattle. She has nowhere to turn. Tomorrow morning, you file for temporary conservatorship due to her 'postpartum psychosis,' take custody of the child, and freeze her trust."
Grant smirked, the familiar arrogance flooding back into his veins. "You're brilliant, Madison."
Before their glasses could clink, Grant’s personal phone began vibrating furiously on the marble coffee table. It didn't ring once; it rang continuously, buzzes overlapping as dozens of notifications flooded the screen.
Then Madison’s phone chimed. Then Grant’s tablet.
Grant frowned, picking up his phone. He had thirty-seven missed calls from the Chief Financial Officer of Holloway Enterprises, eight from the Chairman of the Board, and over a hundred text messages from national news outlets.
"What is this?" Grant muttered, unlocking the screen.
A notification from Twitter sat at the top, trending number one globally with over three million retweets in forty minutes:
#GrantHollowayExposed #JusticeForClaire
His thumb trembled as he clicked the link.
The video loaded instantly in high definition. It wasn't shaky phone footage. It was taken from three separate angles, including the venue's own high-security overhead cameras and a crystal-clear mobile feed taken by someone who had been standing five feet away.
The audio was pristine.
The entire world could hear Madison whispering in Claire’s ear: *"Your baby is a bastard, Claire. Grant told me he wishes you’d miscarry so he doesn't have to pay child support."*
The footage showed Claire backing away in tears, Madison intentionally spilling red wine over her own gown and screaming for help, and then Grant charging across the room like a madman.
Every news channel in America was broadcasting the next five seconds on repeat:
Grant’s steel-toed dress shoe driving violently into Claire’s seven-month-pregnant stomach.
Claire falling, screaming, curling on the floor as blood began to pool beneath her gown.
And Grant Holloway sneering into the camera: *"You brought this on yourself."*
Underneath the post, a single account was tagged as the source: **Maya Bennett**.
Grant’s glass slipped from his fingers, shattering across the Italian marble floor. Champagne and broken crystal splashed over his bare feet, but he didn't feel a thing.
