Chapter 5 - THE DNA RESULT

The detectives obtained a court order to access the sealed hospital records.
Inside were delivery notes, genetic screening documents, and a laboratory report that had never been included in Liam's medical file.
The report showed that Ava and Nora were identical twins.
A second DNA analysis confirmed Liam was their biological father.
But another result had been added to the file years later.
It was a test Victoria had privately commissioned.
The sample belonged to Liam and the infant listed as Nora.
The result confirmed paternity with overwhelming probability.
Beside it, someone had written:
Do not release this information to Liam Carter.
Rebecca stared at the document.
"Why would Victoria order a test if she already knew the truth?"
The answer emerged when investigators traced the legal records.
Victoria had been trying to prove that Nora was not Liam's daughter because the child threatened a private trust arrangement. Under the original family trust, both twins were entitled to equal inheritance. If Nora's existence became public, several transfers made by Victoria could be challenged.
But the DNA result had destroyed her plan.
Nora was Liam's child.
And the trust had never legally excluded her.
Victoria had hidden one granddaughter to protect her control over the family's wealth.
Yet money was only part of the story.
A final page in the medical file contained a handwritten note from Emily:
If anything happens to me, Liam must know that both girls are his. Please don't let my mother decide which daughter deserves a family.
Liam read it until the words blurred.
Emily had known her mother was capable of separating the children.
