Chapter 10 - The Sovereign Protocol

Midnight was less than forty minutes away.

Inside the high-security executive boardroom on the 70th floor of the Callaway Global Tower, Uncle Richard stood at the head of the marble conference table. He had changed into a pristine tuxedo, his silver hair neatly combed back, exuding the effortless charisma of a man who believed the world was his birthright.

Flanking the entrance were four private paramilitary operators, while Vanessa stood by the projection screens, her injured arm wrapped in a black sling, cold eyes scanning the bank of digital monitors.

Gathered around the table were ten terrified, bewildered board members, summoned from their private residences under the pretense of an unprecedented national corporate crisis.

"Gentlemen, ladies," Richard spoke, his voice dripping with fabricated grief. "The tragedy that unfolded tonight at the Callaway estate defies comprehension. My nephew Nathaniel suffered an acute psychotic break, triggered by the stress of his impending nuptials. He turned on his bride, assaulted our beloved Eleanor, and fled into the night with a maid he had apparently been... compromised by."

A horrified murmur rippled through the board.

"Under Article Nine of the Callaway Sovereign Charter," Richard continued smoothly, sliding a biometric authorization tablet into the center of the table, "in the event of the primary heir's incapacitation or criminal flight, executive proxy passes to the senior bloodline director. I require your unanimous verification to seal the transition before the Asian markets open."

"You won't get a single signature, Richard," an icy, authoritative voice chimed through the boardroom intercom.

The double doors of the boardroom burst open.

The security guards reached for their holstered sidearms, but froze instantly. Walking through the threshold was Nathaniel Callaway, cutting a figure of imposing, ruthless authority in a tailored midnight-blue suit, his eyes burning with cold rage.

And beside him walked Rose.

She had abandoned the maid’s apron. Now she wore a breathtaking, blood-red silk evening gown salvaged from Eleanor's private penthouse wardrobe, her dark hair swept up in an intricate, regal chignon. Around her neck, gleaming with unmistakable, defiant brilliance, was the silver serpent-and-lily necklace.

Behind them, wheeled into the room by two heavily armed former Callaway security veterans who had served Eleanor for decades, was Eleanor Callaway herself—conscious, sitting upright, and wearing the family’s gold signet ring.

"Nathaniel!" one of the senior board members gasped, rising to his feet. "Eleanor! You’re alive!"

"Very much alive, Arthur," Eleanor said, her voice cutting through the silence like a scalpel. "And fully capable of identifying the traitor in this room."

Richard’s confident smile didn't entirely vanish, but the veins along his temple pulsed with violent tension. "A touching theatrical entrance, mother. But the legal documents are already filed. The board knows Nathaniel has lost his mind. Security—detain them immediately!"

The guards stepped forward, but Nathaniel raised his right hand. Between his fingers, he held a sleek flash drive connected directly to the room's central holographic projection system.

"Before anyone touches a weapon," Nathaniel said in a voice that commanded absolute silence, "perhaps the board would like to see the offshore transfer logs from the Grand Cayman reserve accounts, signed in Richard Callaway's personal encrypted handwriting fifteen minutes before my wedding began."

Vanessa’s hand instinctively crept toward her concealed firearm. "Richard, kill them now. We don't need the board."

"Shut up, Vanessa!" Richard snapped, his composure rapidly fracturing as the digital screens flared to life, projecting thousands of pages of redacted bank transfers, covert surveillance photographs, and the ultimate smoking gun: the complete exoneration of Evelyn Sterling, dated fifteen years prior.

Rose stepped forward, her heels clicking authoritatively against the floor. "Fifteen years ago, my mother was murdered to cover up this theft. Tonight, the Sterling family takes its name back."

She reached up, detached the titanium cipher key from the pendant, and slid it into the master console on the table. A high-pitched tone resonated through the room.

*‘Access Granted: Sterling-Callaway Sovereign Vault Unlocked.’*

Richard stared in utter horror as his offshore accounts, his private shell trusts, and his emergency escape funds began draining in real time, siphoned directly into the central treasury controlled by Nathaniel and Rose.

"You arrogant little brat!" Richard roared, losing all semblance of refinement. He lunged across the table toward Rose, his fingers clawing for the cipher.

Nathaniel stepped between them in a flash, catching Richard’s wrist in an iron grip. With a sickening crunch, he twisted his uncle's arm downward, slamming his face hard against the marble conference table.

"You lay another finger on her," Nathaniel growled into Richard's ear, "and they won't even find your ashes."
