Chapter 10 - An Unbroken Dawn

By sunrise, the grand mansion had returned to an eerie quiet. The broken glass in the conservatory was swept away, the emergency vehicles had departed, and the morning sun bathed the manicured lawns in golden light.
Elena sat in the nursery, watching Leo sip from his bottle, happily kicking his tiny feet. The nightmare of the past twenty-four hours felt almost surreal in the morning calm.
The nursery door creaked open softly. Marcus stepped in, dressed in a comfortable cashmere sweater, looking entirely different from the cold billionaire titan of the previous night.
"He looks peaceful," Marcus said quietly, walking over to sit on the bench beside her.
"He slept right through the sunrise," Elena smiled, wiping a drop of milk from Leo's chin. "He’s strong, Marcus. Just like his father."
Marcus looked at the boy, then turned his gaze to Elena. "I can never repay you for what you did yesterday. You stood between my son and violence when you could have simply run. Most people would have saved themselves."
"I could never leave him," Elena said honestly. "He has no control over the world he was born into. He needed someone to protect him."
"And you did," Marcus said. He pulled an envelope from his pocket and set it gently on the small table next to her. "I had Arthur draw up new contracts. If you choose to stay, your position is no longer that of an ordinary nanny. You are now the official head guardian of Leo’s private estate, with full legal standing in his household management and complete financial independence."
Elena looked at the envelope, stunned. "Marcus, I don't know what to say..."
May you like
"Say you’ll stay," Marcus said, his voice softer than she had ever heard it. "Leo needs you. And... so do I."
Elena felt her cheeks warm. She looked down at Leo, who reached up a tiny hand to grasp her index finger. "I’ll stay," she whispered.
