Chapter 8 - The Ambush in the Hall

The glass doors of the conservatory shattered as Victoria’s two hired operatives burst into the grand hall.
Through the surveillance cameras, Elena watched in silent horror. The lead operative pointed a taser directly at Marcus, screaming instructions that Elena couldn't hear through the soundproof bunker walls.
Marcus didn't move an inch. He simply threw the manila folder onto the marble floor between them.
The pages scattered. Bright, glossy photographs spread across the marble.
Victoria rushed in behind her hired goons, shouting something venomous, but as her gaze dropped to the scattered papers, she froze completely. Her swagger evaporated in an instant.
Marcus said something, his mouth moving slowly, deliberately. He tapped his wristwatch.
On the screen, Elena could see the color drain from Victoria's face for the second time that evening. She scrambled down to her knees, frantically gathering the scattered papers, her hands shaking violently.
The two operatives looked at each other, confused by the sudden change in their employer's demeanor. They lowered their weapons slightly, sensing that the game had changed entirely.
Then, the main double doors of the mansion blew inward.

A dozen tactical state troopers flooded the foyer, assault rifles raised, laser sights painting the walls and the bodies of Victoria’s mercenaries. The two men instantly threw down their tasers and raised their hands in surrender, hitting the floor without hesitation.
Victoria, however, remained on her knees, clutching the papers to her chest like a broken doll, surrounded by armed officers.
