Chapter 11 - The Sealed Legacy

Three weeks later, life had settled into an idyllic rhythm. The legal proceedings against Victoria were moving forward behind closed doors with brutal efficiency. Restraining orders had been cemented, the divorce finalized on grounds of extreme misconduct, and full, sole legal and physical custody of Leo had been granted exclusively to Marcus.
Elena had moved into the sunlit suite adjacent to the nursery. Her days were filled with quiet strolls through the restored gardens, reading in the vast library, and helping Marcus rebuild a broken home into a sanctuary of genuine warmth.
The cold distance between them had completely vanished, replaced by an intimate, unspoken understanding that grew stronger with each passing evening dinner.
On a rainy Tuesday afternoon, Marcus was summoned to the city for a high-level board meeting to officially finalize the severance of Victoria’s family interests from the Vance conglomerate.
Elena was in Marcus’s home study, organizing files as requested, when the estate's private courier arrived with a sealed, heavy black lockbox stamped with the seal of the Vance Family Trust.
"Special delivery for Mr. Vance," the courier stated, handing Elena the digital stylus for a signature. "Strictly confidential."
Elena signed, thanking the man, and carried the heavy box to Marcus's desk. Attached to the handle was an old-fashioned wax seal bearing a crest she had never seen before—not the Vance crest, but something older, featuring two intertwined serpents.
Beneath the seal was a handwritten note addressed directly to her:
*To Elena: You think you won a kingdom by protecting the child. But ask Marcus who the child's biological mother really was. Ask him what happened to his sister twenty-five years ago. The truth is inside this box, and the camera is already watching you open it.*
Elena’s blood ran cold. She stared down at the black lockbox, her trembling fingers hovering just inches over the wax seal. Suddenly, her personal phone rang on the desk.
The caller ID flashed: *UNKNOWN CALLER.*

With a shaking hand, Elena brought the phone to her ear.
"Don't open it, Elena," a woman's raspy, unfamiliar voice whispered through the receiver. "If you break that seal, neither you nor that baby will live to see tomorrow."
