Chapter 4 - The Footage That Set the Internet on Fire

By dawn, the Vance public relations machine had already activated at maximum force.

Morning news segments on local television were suspiciously silent about the incident at the Vance estate. Major gossip outlets published brief, sanitized blurbs claiming that Evelyn Vance had suffered a "tragic fainting spell due to exhaustion" during her annual charity gala, causing a minor domestic scuffle.

Evelyn believed she had silenced the truth. But she hadn't accounted for Alexander King.

Alexander was an investigative journalist known across the nation for dismantling corrupt oligarchs and untouchable politicians. He had been a guest at the gala under an alias, and he possessed the full, uncompressed 4K footage captured by Detective Cole’s phone.

At 7:15 AM, Alexander hit "Publish" on his independent media platform.

The title was blistering: *THE MATRIARCH'S TRUE FACE: Evelyn Vance Throws 2-Year-Old Grandson Onto Concrete While Guests Watch in Silence.*

The video wasn't grainy. It was terrifyingly sharp. Viewers could hear the sickening thud of Noah’s stroller flipping over. They could hear Evelyn’s venomous roar: *"THAT CHILD IS NOT FAMILY!"* They saw Claire lunging across the patio to shield her baby, and the chilling moment Evelyn raised a solid silver platter like an executioner’s axe.

Within two hours, the clip accumulated over fifteen million views.

By noon, it was the number-one trending topic across Twitter, TikTok, and Facebook. Outraged mothers began organizing boycotts of every Vance-owned cosmetic, retail, and pharmaceutical brand. Sponsors pulled out of their partnerships. Protesters holding signs that read *JUSTICE FOR NOAH* began assembling outside the iron gates of the Vance estate.

Inside a modest extended-stay suite on the outskirts of the city, Claire watched the numbers climb on her phone. She hadn't gone back to the mansion. She hadn't answered a single one of Richard’s eighty-four frantic calls.

Her phone buzzed. It wasn't Richard. It was Alexander King.

"Mrs. Vance?" his calm, resonant voice came through the receiver. "I'm the one who released the video."

Claire took a deep breath. "Why did you do it?"

"Because for twenty years, the Vance family has treated human beings like disposable napkins, using their billions to silence victims," Alexander replied. "I saw what happened to that baby. You have the truth on your side, Claire. But Evelyn has judges in her pocket, crooked district attorneys on retainer, and five of the most ruthless defense firms in New York. If you want to survive this war, you're going to need an army."

"I don't have an army," Claire said, looking over at Noah, who was sleeping peacefully in the crib beside the bed. "I only have my son."

"Then you'll be glad to know," Alexander said quietly, "that someone with more power than Evelyn Vance has just landed at JFK. And he wants to meet you."
