Chapter 6 - The Breach at the Gate

The loud, rhythmic blare of the estate security siren echoed through the massive halls, cutting through the afternoon calm like a blade.

In an instant, Alessandro stood up, his face instantly transforming into the lethal leader of the Moretti family. He pulled a concealed firearm from his shoulder holster, checking the action with a smooth, practiced motion.

"Stay inside, Sophia," Alessandro ordered firmly, grabbing her by the shoulder. "Lock this door from the inside and do not open it for anyone except me or Victor."

"Where is Ethan?" Sophia asked, her heart hammering against her ribs with sudden panic.

"He's in the library with his tutor. Victor is already securing him," Alessandro replied. "Lock the door now!"

Alessandro sprinted out of the east wing, his long legs covering the marble hallway in seconds. As he reached the grand foyer, six armed security personnel were already deploying toward the front courtyard.

Outside, the heavy rain had returned in full force. Through the massive front windows, Alessandro could see a heavy black armored SUV that had smashed directly through the wrought-iron north gate, spinning out of control onto the cobblestone driveway.

Four masked men armed with automatic rifles leaped out of the vehicle, opening fire on the estate guards stationed near the main entrance. Sparks flew off the stone pillars as glass shattered across the driveway.

"Suppressing fire!" Victor yelled over the comms, ducking behind a stone statue as bullets chipped away at the masonry.

Alessandro didn't panic. He moved with cold, tactical precision. He knew every inch of his property, every angle of cover, every blind spot. He slid behind a heavy stone pillar on the upper balcony overlooking the driveway, taking aim with his high-caliber handgun.

THUD. THUD.

Two precise shots rang out above the automatic gunfire. Two of the masked attackers dropped instantly to the wet cobblestones.

The remaining two assailants realized they were hopelessly outgunned. They scrambled backward toward their wrecked vehicle, trying to use the armored doors as cover.

"ALESSANDRO MORETTI!" a harsh, amplified voice screamed from a loudspeaker inside the SUV. "This is a message from Dominic Falcone! You took our money, you took our territory! You give us Julian, or we burn this entire estate to the ground!"

Alessandro stepped out onto the open stone balcony, completely exposed to the rain, his gun held low at his side. His presence alone was so commanding, so terrifyingly calm, that the gunfire instantly ceased.

"Tell Dominic," Alessandro’s voice boomed across the wet courtyard, carrying an unnatural, ice-cold power, "that if he wants my territory, he can come get it himself. But he better send better men than you four."

With a swift hand signal, Alessandro signaled his sniper team positioned on the roof tower.

CRACK.

A single high-powered rifle shot shattered the windshield of the armored SUV, disabling the engine in a cloud of thick white steam.

Within thirty seconds, Victor and four guards swarmed the remaining two attackers, tackling them to the muddy ground and disarming them instantly.

The courtyard fell dead quiet again, save for the heavy patter of rain and the idling hum of security vehicles arriving from the secondary perimeter.

Victor walked up the balcony stairs, wiping rain and mud from his face. "Boss! They were a hit team sent directly by Falcone. They thought the house would be unprepared after the party incident."

"They thought wrong," Alessandro said coldly, handing his weapon to Victor. "Where did they get an armored SUV through our outer neighborhood checkpoints?"

"We're checking the GPS logs now," Victor said. "Looks like they had local city access codes."

Alessandro’s dark eyes narrowed. Falcone wasn't just throwing random attacks; he was using remaining insider connections to test the estate's defenses. And as long as Falcone was alive and breathing in Brooklyn, Ethan, Sophia, and Lily would never be truly safe.

"Victor," Alessandro said quietly, looking out over his domain. "Prepare the heavy strike team."

"Are we going to war, Boss?" Victor asked, a grim smile touching his lips.

"No," Alessandro replied, his voice dropping into a deadly whisper. "We are ending one."

He turned and walked back into the warmth of the house, heading straight for the east wing to ensure Sophia and Lily were unhurt.

When he reached the locked door of their apartment, he knocked three times in their pre-arranged rhythm.

The heavy door opened slowly. Sophia stood there, holding a heavy silver candle holder like a club, her face pale as snow. When she saw Alessandro standing there—soaked in rain, unharmed, and solid—she let out a ragged breath and dropped the candle holder onto the rug.

Without thinking, driven by pure relief, she stepped forward and wrapped her arms around his waist, burying her face into his wet shoulder.

Alessandro froze for a fraction of a second in surprise. But then, slowly, he wrapped his strong arms around her, holding her tightly against his chest in the quiet hallway.
