Chapter 1 - THE GLOWING SCREEN

The rain hammered viciously against the bedroom window pane of the suburban townhouse. Inside, the bedroom was a chaotic scene of scattered debris—a shattered lamp lay in pieces across the carpet, torn curtains hung limply from their rod, and books were strewn across the hardwood floor.
Detective Rachel Carter, wearing her heavy dark leather jacket with her silver police badge clipped visibly onto her belt, knelt on the floor. Her heart hammered against her ribs as she tenderly cradled her injured twin sister, Emily. Emily’s face was pale, her breathing shallow and ragged, a dark bruise already blooming along her cheekbone.
Standing near the edge of the bed was Mark, Emily’s husband. He stood shirtless in gray sweatpants, his chest heaving, his hands trembling slightly as his face drained of color in sudden, sheer panic.
Mark gestured wildly toward the floor, trying to force a dismissive smile.
"She fell!" Mark falsely said, his voice cracking with artificial innocence. "She gets dramatic when she drinks! Ask her, Rachel, it was a stupid accident!"
Rachel held Emily gently against her chest, wrapping her arm securely around her sister’s trembling shoulders while glaring up at Mark with cold, unyielding detective authority. Her eyes were sharp as flint, cutting right through his pathetic lie.
"Save it, Mark," Rachel growled, her voice dropping to a dangerous whisper. "I know a crime scene when I see one."
The quiet hum of the room was suddenly broken by the harsh wail of approaching sirens outside. Red and blue emergency strobes flickered through the blinds, casting rhythmic crimson and azure shadows across the ruined bedroom walls.
Heavy, rapid footsteps echoed up the stairs.
Two uniformed police officers burst through the bedroom doorway, weapons unholstered but held at low-ready. An officer immediately stepped into the room and knelt beside the bed near Emily’s outstretched arm, his eyes scanning the surrounding struggle.
Mark took half a step backward, raising his palms. "Look, officers, this is a family misunderstanding. You don't have to believe whatever my sister-in-law is claiming!"
Rachel didn't even look up at him.
"They don't have to rely on belief," Rachel firmly said, her voice echoing with absolute confidence through the chaotic space.
Mark stepped back defensively toward the doorway as the responding officer inspects the floor near Emily's trembling hand.
The officer’s eyes caught something beneath the edge of the nightstand. He reached down carefully, pointing toward a cracked smartphone lying facedown on the hardwood floor with its screen glowing a steady, vibrant blue.
He flipped the phone over gently with gloved fingers. On the cracked glass surface, a live cloud broadcast timer was silently ticking away: 04:12... 04:13... 04:14.
The officer looked up in utter astonishment. "Detective... this phone is still recording."
Mark’s confident expression completely collapsed into sheer terror as he realized his entire violent assault—every strike, every threat, every scream—had been captured live and backed up automatically to a secure server.
"No... wait!" Mark gasped, taking another frantic step toward the hall. "That's—that's out of context!"
The second officer moved with lightning speed. He closed the distance in a single stride, grabbing Mark’s arms, twisting them behind his back, and forcing him forcefully against the doorframe into steel handcuffs.
CLICK-CLACK.
Mark panicked, shouting: “Wait! That's not what happened! She set me up! Rachel, tell them!”
"You have the right to remain silent, Mark," the officer cited cold law, forcing Mark down toward the waiting patrol car outside. "I strongly suggest you use it."
Rachel stayed by Emily's side, holding her twin sister's cold hand tightly as Mark was restrained and dragged out into the rainy night.
Rachel looked down at her twin sister Emily, whispering comfort while keeping her gaze fixed on the arresting officers taking Mark away.

"It's over, Em," Rachel whispered, pressing her forehead gently against Emily's hairline. "He's never going to hurt you again. I promise."
Hold on Rachel's calm, decisive, and protective expression. The nightmare in the bedroom was finished, but the deep unraveling of Mark's dark secrets was only just beginning.
