Chapter 7 - Silence Restored

The vast ballroom was suddenly quiet, save for the soft, ambient hum of the chandeliers and the gentle drip of the melting ice sculpture near the head table.

I stood alone in the center of the polished marble floor, looking around at the empty room. The black-and-gold napkins bearing our intertwined initials—E + M—lay scattered across the tables like discarded confetti from a celebration that never truly existed.

Ten years of marriage. Ten years of compromises, quiet sacrifices, and misplaced trust. In less than twenty minutes, it had all been swept away, leaving behind a clean slate and an empire of my own making.

Harrison Cole walked over, holding two crystal flutes filled with sparkling cider. He handed one to me with a respectful nod.

"To new beginnings, Mrs. Vance," Harrison said quietly.

"Thank you, Harrison," I replied, taking a small sip of the cider. "For everything. You executed the transition precisely on schedule."

"Precision is my specialty," he smiled warmly. "What are your orders for Monday morning? The board of directors is waiting for your directives regarding the firm's restructuring."

"On Monday morning," I said, looking toward the grand double doors where the warm spring night air was beginning to drift inside, "we begin rebuilding. But tonight, I think I'll just enjoy the quiet."

Harrison nodded respectfully, gave a slight bow, and turned toward the exit, leaving me alone in the vast, beautiful expanse of the ballroom.
