Chapter 3 - The Arrival at the Threshold

All three hundred heads whipped toward the back of the grand ballroom.

Stepping through the threshold was Harrison Cole. The Chairman of Vantage Meridian—a legendary figure in the corporate world, rarely seen at social galas, dressed immaculately in a rich burgundy tuxedo—strode into the room with an expression of cold, thunderous fury. His sharp eyes scanned the ballroom until they locked instantly upon the two security guards who were still guiding Rebecca toward the exit.

Harrison’s face flashed with immediate panic and outrage. He raised his hand urgently, his voice booming across the massive hall with an authoritative resonance that commanded absolute stillness.

"Stop right there!" Harrison shouted, his voice echoing off the marble pillars. "Release her immediately!"

The security guards froze mid-step, instantly recognizing the most powerful man in their corporate conglomerate. They dropped their hands from Rebecca’s arms as if she were made of fragile glass.

Rebecca turned around calmly, smoothing down the front of her dark green gown. She didn't look surprised. She simply walked a few paces back toward the center of the room, standing beside the abandoned black purse on the marble floor.

Marcus staggered backward on the stage, his arrogant grin melting into pale, sickly horror. His chest rose and fell in rapid, shallow breaths as his brain struggled to process what was happening.

"Mr. Cole..." Marcus stammered, his voice cracking loudly in the silent room. "Sir... what... what are you doing here? This is a private anniversary celebration—"

Harrison Cole ignored Marcus entirely. He walked with measured, powerful strides down the central aisle, the crowd parting instantly before him like a wave before a ship. He stopped directly in front of Rebecca, lowered his head in a respectful, courtly bow, and offered her a warm, deferential smile.
