Chapter 10 - The Unbroken Thread

The morning sun rose crisp and golden over the Miller home, casting warm light across the peaceful backyard.

In the living room, beside the stone fireplace, hung a large, beautiful framed photograph taken at the courage awards—Andrew, Ashley, and Natalie all smiling together, holding Lucky the puppy.

Sitting on the mantelpiece directly beneath the photo was the old, worn stuffed puppy, Buddy, along with the laminated first-day-of-school picture that had survived the mud of Blackwood Creek.

Eight-year-old Ashley sat on the warm wooden floor, tying a bright red ribbon around Buddy’s ear.

Andrew walked into the room, wearing his comfortable flannel shirt, holding two warm cups of cocoa. He set one down on the coffee table and sat beside his daughter on the rug.

"What are you doing with Buddy, sweetie?" Andrew asked softly.

Ashley looked up, her brown eyes bright, clear, and full of happiness.

"I’m fixing his ribbon, Daddy," Ashley said proudly. "So he remembers that even when things get broken, they can be fixed better than before."

Andrew pulled his daughter into a tight, warm hug, resting his chin against her head.

"He'll always remember, baby," Andrew whispered, kissing her forehead. "We both will."

Outside the window, the wind rustled gently through the tall oak trees, carrying the sweet scent of autumn grass and fresh air. The storm that had once threatened to destroy their lives had passed forever, leaving behind a foundation built on absolute love, unbreakable courage, and a future that nothing in the world could ever take away.
