Chapter 8 - Daniel’s Choice

"I, Daniel Montgomery, take you, Clara Vance, to be my wedded wife," Daniel said, his voice clear, deep, and unwavering. "I promise to love you, to honor you, and to stand as your fortress against every storm. I promise that you will never have to face cruelty alone again, and that your voice will always be heard, cherished, and respected."

When it was my turn, I looked into his eyes and spoke from the very core of my soul.

"I, Clara Vance, take you, Daniel Montgomery, to be my husband. You saw my truth when everyone else believed the lies. You stood by me not as a savior, but as a partner. I promise to build a life of truth, strength, and endless joy with you, leaving behind every shadow that tried to keep us apart."

When Daniel slipped the platinum band onto my finger, it felt like an anchor securing my heart to peace. I placed his ring on his hand, my fingers steady and sure.

"By the power vested in me," the minister announced, beaming, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. Daniel, you may kiss your bride."

Daniel didn't hesitate. He pulled me into his arms, lifting me slightly off the ground, and pressed his lips to mine.

The ballroom erupted into deafening cheers and applause. Friends, business leaders, and Daniel's family stood on their feet, celebrating not just a union of two people, but a victory over darkness and deceit.

Daniel set me down, smiling against my lips. "Mrs. Montgomery."

"Mrs. Vance-Montgomery," I corrected with a wink.

"Even better," he laughed, taking my arm as we turned to face the cheering crowd.

We walked down the aisle together, our heads held high, stepping over the threshold where my mother had tried to destroy me. As we reached the foyer, the reception doors opened to reveal a banquet hall transformed into a wonderland of lights, flowers, and live music.

The celebration was ours. Every laugh, every toast, every dance that followed was a testament to the fact that Victoria’s reign of terror was officially over.

Or so we desperately wanted to believe.
