Chapter 10 - The Vow

Three weeks passed in a peaceful blur.
Leo grew stronger with every passing day, quickly gaining weight and transitioning out of the neonatal care unit into our arms full-time. The doctors officially cleared both of us for discharge, granting us permission to return home to our sprawling estate in Greenwich, Connecticut.
To ensure our complete safety, Marcus had transformed our private estate into an impenetrable sanctuary. High-tech biometric security gates, round-the-clock private security details, and state-of-the-art perimeter sensors now shielded the entire hundred-acre property.
That evening, the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the Connecticut sky in vibrant hues of gold, crimson, and lavender. I stood near the French doors of our master bedroom, holding Leo against my shoulder, gently patting his back as he drifted to sleep.
Marcus walked into the room, having stripped off his business jacket and tie. He walked up behind me, wrapping his strong arms around my waist, resting his chin on my shoulder as we both looked down at our sleeping child.
"Everything I have built," Marcus whispered softly, his breath warm against my neck, "the billions, the towers, the influence... none of it means a single thing without you and Leo. When I opened that hospital door and saw her standing over you... my entire world stopped spinning."
I turned slightly in his arms, smiling softly into his eyes. "You came in time, Marcus. You always do."
"I made a vow when I married you," he said, taking my free hand and pressing a gentle kiss against my wedding ring. "To protect you from every storm. I failed to see the viper in our own house, Khloe. But I swear on my life, from this moment on, no shadow will ever touch our home again."
We stood together in the quiet grandeur of the bedroom, bathed in the soft glow of twilight. For the first time in months, the air felt light. The trauma of the hospital floor, the terror of the red heel, the poison, and the betrayal were finally behind us.

Leo let out a tiny, contented sigh in his sleep, nuzzling deeper into my chest. Marcus kissed his tiny forehead, then leaned down and captured my lips in a slow, passionate kiss filled with relief, devotion, and new beginnings.
We were safe. We were whole. We had won.
