Chapter 8 - The Cost of Betrayal

Brenda fell to her knees on the marble floor, sobbing hysterically. “Damian, you can’t press charges! I’ll go to prison! Think of the press! Think of the scandal for the hotels!”

“I don't give a damn about the press,” Damian said coldly.

He turned toward the corridor. “Elena!”

Elena appeared immediately, accompanied by two large, burly men in black security uniforms who worked estate security.

“Pack their things,” Damian commanded, pointing at Brenda and Gertrude. “Every single designer dress, every piece of jewelry Brenda bought with hotel funds stays here. Give them one suitcase each with basic clothing. They have thirty minutes to clear out of my home.”

“Damian! No!” Gertrude yelled, her aristocratic facade completely crumbling into hysterical rage. “This is an outrage! You cannot evict your own mother! I’ll sue you! I will drag your name through every tabloid in the country!”

“You can try, Mother,” Damian said softly, pulling a thick stack of printed papers from the sideboard. “These are the pawn tickets Fiona had to collect because you stopped funding the staff healthcare reserves. These are the eviction notices you signed for people who built my company with me. Along with Marcus’s forensic reports, the police have more than enough to put both of you away for grand larceny and wire fraud.”

Gertrude choked on her words, the fury dying in her eyes, replaced by pure terror.

“If you leave quietly now,” Damian continued, his voice dangerously low, “I won’t file the criminal complaints today. You will surrender all cards, your leased vehicles, and your access to the family trust. You will live on the modest monthly stipend your late father left you in his private pension. Exactly twelve hundred dollars a month.”

“Twelve hundred dollars?!” Brenda screamed, looking up from the floor. “That won't even cover my rent!”

“Then get a job, Brenda,” Damian said. “Just like Miriam. Just like Elena. Just like Fiona did when we had nothing.”

The two security guards stepped forward, flanking Gertrude and Brenda.

“Ladies,” the lead guard said firmly. “This way.”
