Chapter 5 - Deceptions Laid Bare

Meanwhile, on the top floor of the Moretti Tower, the atmosphere was suffocating.
Vincent stood by the floor-to-ceiling glass wall, staring down at the sprawling city lights. The glass reflected his face—hollowed by shock and simmering rage. On his mahogany desk lay a thick manila folder, pulled from the deepest archives of his personal safe.
The door burst open. Sophia stormed into the penthouse, her designer heels clicking frantically across the Italian marble.
“Are you insane, Vincent?” she shouted, dropping her purse onto the leather sofa. “You threatened me in front of stagehands! You let an unstable ex-wife humiliate our family in front of every major investor in the city! Do you have any idea what the board is saying?”
Vincent didn't turn around. His silence was heavier than a tombstone.
“We need to issue a statement immediately,” Sophia pressed on, pacing the room. “We tell the media that she’s a delusional former partner trying to run a smear campaign for money. We squash it before the morning papers print—”
“Shut up,” Vincent said softly.
Sophia froze, blinking in disbelief. “What?”
Vincent turned slowly. In his hand, he held a medical log from seven years ago—documents his private investigators had just retrieved from the hospital's private records after a discreet call.
“You told me her labor was false,” Vincent said, his voice terrifyingly calm. “You called my burner phone that night, screaming that you were bleeding, that Lucas was in danger. You begged me to come up to the VIP surgical wing on the eighth floor.”
Sophia’s breath caught. Her eyes darted toward the exit. “Vincent, I was having an emergency! I was terrified!”
“The hospital records show you were admitted for a mild panic attack, Sophia. No bleeding. No distress. You were released two hours later with a prescription for chamomile tea.”
“I... the doctors were wrong! They didn't know what they were talking about!”
Vincent stepped forward, the physical presence of a hardened predator closing the distance. “And when I tried to go back downstairs to room 412, who met me in the hallway? Your brother. Telling me Elena had signed discharge papers and left in an ambulance because the baby didn't survive.”
Sophia’s face drained of color. “Vincent, listen to me—”
“For seven years!” Vincent roared, slamming his fist onto the mahogany desk so violently that the heavy crystal decanter shattered into pieces. “For seven years, I believed my firstborn child died in that delivery room! I believed Elena hated me so much she buried our daughter in secret and fled to punish me!”
He leaned over her, his eyes wild with unbridled fury. “You forged those transfer notices. You paid off the night administrator to redirect my calls. You orchestrated the entire thing so I would sign our marriage certificate out of sheer, hollow grief!”
“I did it for us!” Sophia shrieked, backing against the wall, tears finally breaking through her makeup. “She was weak, Vincent! She was an artist, an heiress who hated your life! She would have destroyed you! I gave you an heir! I stood by you while you fought your rivals!”
“You gave me lies,” Vincent hissed, grabbing her by the chin and forcing her to look into his murderous gaze. “And that child on that stage tonight is the only pure thing my bloodline has ever produced. You will pack your things. You will leave this penthouse tonight. If you ever show your face near my daughter again, not even your father will be able to find your remains.”
He threw her away from him in disgust, turning to his head of security waiting at the double doors.

“Find out which hotel Elena is staying at,” Vincent commanded coldly. “I’m going alone.”
