Chapter 7 - The Boardroom Interruption

At 7:00 AM sharp, a knock sounded at the door of room 104.

Vanessa groaned, throwing the thin polyester blanket off her shoulders. “Danny, get the door. It’s probably room service with their pathetic apology breakfast.”

Daniel, exhausted and terrified, opened the door.

Standing in the hallway was not a waiter with a silver tray. It was Richard Sterling, accompanied by two men in immaculate charcoal suits carrying leather briefcases, and two uniformed resort security officers.

“Good morning, Mr. Whitmore,” Richard said with crisp professionalism. “May we come in?”

“What is this?” Vanessa demanded, stepping out of the bathroom in an oversized bathrobe. “Who gave you permission to knock on our door at this hour?”

One of the men in charcoal suits stepped forward, opening his briefcase and pulling out a thick sheaf of legal documents.

“Mrs. Vanessa Whitmore? I am Arthur Vance, Senior Legal Counsel for Whitmore Hospitality International.”

Vanessa rolled her eyes. “Oh, look! The old woman sent her lawyers! Did you see my video? Are you here to settle? Because my price just doubled.”

The lawyer didn't blink. He handed her a formal document stamped with a red corporate seal.

“This is a formal cease-and-desist order, accompanied by a notice of intent to sue for criminal defamation, corporate slander, tortious interference with business operations, and unauthorized commercial filming on private property without an enterprise permit.”

Vanessa’s smirk vanished. “What?”

“At 1:14 AM,” Vance explained with robotic precision, “you uploaded a video containing seven verifiably false statements regarding the operational standards and ownership of this facility. Furthermore, in your caption, you accused Mrs. Margaret Whitmore of financial fraud and labor exploitation. Every square foot of this property is under high-definition audio and visual surveillance—including the lobby incident at 4:15 PM yesterday.”

The lawyer signaled to his colleague, who produced an iPad.

On the screen was crystal-clear security footage with crisp directional audio. It showed Vanessa berating the front desk clerk, bragging about kicking Margaret out of the suite, boasting about stealing the caviar on Margaret's account, and physically throwing a key card at a staff member's face.

“We have already filed an emergency injunction with the state superior court,” Vance continued smoothly. “The estimated damages to our brand equity, should this post remain active, have been quantified at four point two million dollars. Unless the video is deleted and a full, legally binding public retraction is posted within thirty minutes, we will serve this lawsuit immediately. And unlike your husband’s trust fund, this lawsuit will target your personal assets, your social media revenue streams, and your future earnings.”

Vanessa looked at the paper, then at the video on the iPad. The blood drained completely from her face.
