Chapter 6 - Social Media Meltdown

While Daniel was slinking back to the annex, Vanessa was already executing her disastrous counterattack.
Furious, humiliated, and trapped in an eight-by-ten room with twin beds and a flickering fluorescent light, she set her smartphone on a plastic desk, turned on her ring light, and hit *Record*.
Within an hour, a video titled *“THE TRUTH ABOUT THE WHITMORE RESORT: How a billionaire mother-in-law ruined our family vacation and abused staff”* was uploaded across three different platforms.
Vanessa had turned on the waterworks. She sat on the edge of the bed, wiping fake tears from her mascara-stained cheeks, claiming that she and Daniel had arrived to celebrate a private family milestone, only to be ambushed by a “narcissistic matriarch” who used her corporate power to throw them into the servants’ quarters. She showed the noisy air conditioning unit, she showed the small bathroom, and she dramatically claimed that Margaret Whitmore was running a toxic, abusive monopoly that preyed on young families.
She tagged every celebrity gossip account, every luxury travel blog, and the official Whitmore Hospitality corporate page.
By 2:00 AM, the video had amassed over two hundred thousand views. The comment section was ablaze with outrage from people who had no context, demanding boycotts and calling for Margaret Whitmore’s cancellation.
Vanessa watched the view counter tick upward, a venomous smile spreading across her face.
“Let’s see her ignore this,” Vanessa sneered to Daniel, who was lying face down on the other bed, clutching a pillow over his ears. “By morning, her PR team will be begging me to take it down. She’ll have to give us the presidential suite, an apology, and a blank check just to save her precious stock price.”
“Vanessa, you shouldn't have done that,” Daniel groaned, his voice muffled by the mattress. “You don't know my mother. When she fights, she doesn't fight on social media. She destroys things.”
“Oh, please!” Vanessa scoffed, tossing her phone onto the nightstand. “She’s an old lady in a cardigan. She doesn't understand algorithms. The internet is on my side, Danny. Tomorrow, we hold all the cards.”

She turned off the bedside lamp, drifting off to sleep with visions of luxury suites and public vindication dancing in her head.
She had no idea that forty floors above her, an emergency war room had already been assembled.
