Chapter 8 - The Return of the True Heir

The young man standing in the doorway looked strikingly like a younger Vincente Ricci. He possessed the same piercing dark eyes, sharp cheekbones, and an aura of unshakable quiet confidence that immediately commanded the room.
Elliot stepped past the shattered glass on the floor, his gaze sweeping over Victoria pinned to the carpet by Daniel, Michael cowering against the bookshelf, and Julian standing tall beside the desk.
“I see I made it just in time for the finale,” Elliot said, his voice calm, steady, and carrying an uncanny echo of the late patriarch.
Julian turned slowly, his eyes locking onto the young man. For a long moment, neither spoke. The tension in the room was thick enough to cut with a knife.
“You’re Elliot,” Julian stated, not as a question, but as a realization.
“I am,” Elliot replied, walking further into the room and stopping three feet away from Julian. He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a heavy, notarized leather portfolio stamped with the official seal of the Florida Supreme Court. “And I have the original, unadulterated birth certificates, DNA test results, and our father’s true final codicil—the one where he legally acknowledged me as his firstborn son before he passed.”
Victoria let out a bitter, hysterical laugh from the floor. “It’s a fake! He’s a nobody they pulled off the street to steal the trust!”
Elliot didn't even look down at her. He kept his eyes fixed on Julian. “She tried to have me killed in the parking garage outside St. Anne’s three nights ago. If your maid, Allison, hadn't accidentally walked past the records room and dropped that photograph, I wouldn't have known they were moving up the timeline to eliminate you tonight.”
Julian processed every word. The puzzle was finally complete. The entire conspiracy—from the poisoned water glasses and the scrubbed surveillance footage to the forged trust amendments and the targeted assassinations—was designed to eliminate both Julian and Elliot in one fell swoop, leaving Victoria and Michael in absolute control of the $120 million empire.
“Why didn't you come to me sooner?” Julian asked quietly.
“Because I wanted to see if the Ricci name still stood for justice, or if it had rotted from the inside out,” Elliot replied evenly. “You proved tonight that you protect your own—even an ordinary maid like Allison, who nearly died trying to do an honest day's work.”
Julian nodded slowly. He turned his attention back to Daniel, who was holding Victoria securely on the floor.
“Daniel,” Julian commanded, his voice like iron. “Take Victoria and Michael down to the subterranean holding facility. Lock them in separate cells. Strip them of every asset, every account, and every corporate title they ever held.”
“No! Julian, you can't do this! We’re family!” Michael sobbed, tears streaming down his face as Daniel hauled him toward the door by his arms.
“You stopped being family the moment you put poison in an innocent woman’s glass,” Julian replied without a trace of pity.
As Daniel dragged the weeping conspirators out of the study, the heavy oak doors closed behind them, plunging the room into a profound, suffocating silence.

Julian turned back to Elliot. The two brothers stood facing each other across the room, the weight of the Ricci empire resting entirely on their shoulders.
“So,” Julian said, a faint, respectful ghost of a smile touching the corner of his mouth. “What do we do with an empire?”
