Chapter 5 - The Receipts

At 5:00 PM, I launched a live broadcast on my business Instagram account, cross-posting it directly to my personal platform.
I didn't wear sweatpants. I didn't cry.
I wore a tailored navy blazer, my hair pulled back in a sleek, professional knot, sitting at my mahogany desk with a crisp white background.
Within five minutes, over fifteen thousand people had tuned in—driven by the drama Sam had created.
“Good evening, everyone,” I began, my voice calm, cool, and articulate. “My name is Maddie Carter. Today, a narrative was put forward by my sister, Samantha Carter, claiming that I maliciously canceled her wedding twenty-four hours before the event out of jealousy and bitterness.”
I leaned toward the camera.
“I am a financial consultant. I deal in facts, documentation, and evidence. So before you make up your mind, let’s review the actual timeline.”
I clicked a button on my screen, sharing my display directly to the stream.
First, I showed the wedding website Sam had launched without my knowledge, complete with my private home address and parking instructions.
“This is my home,” I explained smoothly. “It is an eight-million-dollar private residence. At no point did I give permission for this property to be used as a commercial venue, nor was I ever asked.”
Next, I brought up the security camera footage from my parents’ dining room from four nights ago.
The audio was crisp. Viewers listened as I politely set a boundary, heard my father demand my sacrifice, and watched in real-time as Sam picked up a heavy ceramic bowl and slammed marinara sauce straight into my face.
The live comment section went absolute wild.
@Jenni_L: "OH MY GOD SHE THREW SAUCE?!" @BayAreaLuxe: "The mom didn't even react! What kind of family is this?!" @LegalMind_99: "That's actual assault!"
“As you can see,” I continued, my expression unchanging, “my refusal to allow my home to be used resulted in physical assault and verbal abuse. But it didn't stop there.”
I pulled up the corporate sponsorship agreements Sam had signed, showing how she had monetized my property for $120,000 without my consent.
And finally, with Ethan’s written permission, I displayed the bank audit showing the $80,000 in forged wire transfers Sam had moved into her private offshore account.
“My sister’s wedding was not canceled because I am bitter,” I concluded, looking directly into the camera lens. “It was canceled because my sister engaged in corporate fraud, financial embezzlement against her own fiancé, and criminal trespass on my home.”
I paused, letting the silence settle over the thirty thousand viewers now watching.
“I wish Samantha the help she clearly needs. Goodnight.”

I ended the stream.
The internet exploded.
