Chapter 7 - The Ambush

By 2:30 PM, Daniel arrived at Thomas Callahan’s legal firm downtown.
Callahan was a seventy-two-year-old legal titan with silver hair and razor-sharp blue eyes. He watched the surveillance footage on Daniel's laptop without saying a word, his jaw tightening as Victoria threatened Arthur on screen.
"This is felony extortion, elder abuse, and attempted forgery," Callahan said, closing the laptop with a snap. "Under state law, any contract signed under duress or physical deprivation is void. Furthermore, because she threatened him with fabricated criminal charges, she’s facing up to seven years in state prison."
"I don't just want her arrested, Mr. Callahan," Daniel said, his voice dangerously calm. "I want her and her family completely dismantled. I want them to feel every single ounce of the humiliation they inflicted on my father."
Callahan smiled a cold, predatory smile. "That, my boy, is remarkably easy. Harrison Sterling’s logistics firm is currently surviving on a revolving credit line backed by Arthur's property. Because Arthur holds the controlling fifty-one percent interest, we can call an emergency board meeting within three hours and terminate Harrison as CEO immediately."
"And the house?" Daniel asked.
"The house is in your name alone, purchased prior to your marriage with funds your father gave you as an early gift," Callahan noted. "Victoria has zero legal claim to it. We will file an emergency protective order removing her from the premises instantly."
"Good," Daniel stood up. "Because Marcus Vance is arriving at my house at 4:00 PM with the final notary stamp."
"Then let us make sure we are there to welcome him," Callahan said, reaching for his coat.
Meanwhile, back at the house, Victoria was growing increasingly nervous.
Arthur had refused to sign. Even after Eleanor slapped him across the face—an act that caused Arthur to drop to his knees on the dining room rug—the old man had locked his jaw and refused to pick up the pen.
"Just grab his thumb and ink it!" Eleanor hissed, checking her diamond watch. "Marcus will be here in fifteen minutes. As long as his thumbprint is on the notary page, Marcus can push it through the county registry before 5:00 PM!"
"Arthur, give me your hand!" Victoria screeched, lunging forward and grabbing the old man's wrist, violently trying to force his thumb onto the blue ink pad.
Arthur cried out in pain, struggling against her grip. "No! Danny will know! Danny won't let you!"
"Daniel is a weak nobody!" Victoria spat in his face. "Just like you! He works for scraps while my family runs this town! He will do whatever I tell him to do, just like he always has!"
Suddenly, the front door swung open with a resounding bang.
Victoria froze. Eleanor stopped dead in her tracks.

Daniel stepped into the foyer. Behind him stood two uniformed police officers, followed by Thomas Callahan in a tailored three-piece suit.
