Chapter 9 - The Sovereign’s Court

That evening, the grand penthouse overlooking Boston Common was entirely illuminated.

For the first time in six months, the Rowe syndicate gathered under one roof. Capos, business managers, defense attorneys, and logistics commanders from across the eastern seaboard stood along the mahogany-paneled ballroom. They wore crisp black ties, their expressions grim and disciplined, waiting to see what their leader’s resurrection meant for their future.

When the heavy double doors opened, the entire room stood at attention.

Damien entered, his hand securely wrapped around Maren’s.

She walked beside him without flinching, her head held high, radiating a quiet, dignified grace that silenced every hardened criminal in the room. They had heard the rumors—that Damien had gone to war over a pregnant janitor. But seeing her now, carrying his child, dressed in silk and standing with an unshakeable poise, not a single man dared question her place at his right hand.

Damien led her to the dais at the end of the room, where two high-backed leather chairs sat. He gently helped her into her seat before taking his place beside her, resting one forearm on the armrest.

"Gentlemen," Damien’s voice rang out, instantly commanding absolute silence. "Six months ago, a faction within our own ranks believed they could sell our logistics lines to the Romano family. They believed they could plant a bomb under my seat, erase my existence, and leave my family to rot in the gutter."

A low rumble of anger rolled through the gathered men.

"Marcus Kensington has been arrested by federal authorities," Damien continued. "The Romano family’s shipping ports in Providence have been seized by state authorities under evidence Vance delivered this morning. Their leadership is currently fleeing south. By dawn, Boston belongs entirely to the Rowe organization."

He paused, his hand moving down to cover Maren’s.

"And everything that belongs to me," Damien said, looking across the room with razor-sharp intensity, "belongs to her. Any order she gives is my command. Any disrespect shown to her is high treason against this family. If anyone has an objection, speak now."

Not a breath was drawn.

Every capo, every lieutenant, every hardened enforcer simultaneously dropped their heads, bowing low toward the woman who sat upon the syndicate's throne.

"Hail the boss," Vance called out from the front line, pounding his right fist against his chest.

"Hail the boss," the entire room roared back in unison, the sound vibrating the crystal chandeliers above.

Maren felt a tear prick the corner of her eye, but it was not a tear of fear. She looked down at Damien’s hand, securely wrapped around hers. She had started this week scrubbing vomit and bleach off cold marble, terrified that her child would starve in an alley.
