Chapter 8 - Bloodlines and Betrayal

It was not the police who entered first.
It was Marisol Vance, flanked by Gabriel Aldridge.
Marisol had discarded her apron. She wore the simple black button-down shirt and tailored slacks of the service uniform, but there was nothing subservient about her now. Her stride was regal, her gaze piercing, and every person in her path scrambled out of the way to give her a wide, reverent berth.
Behind them, two federal agents in windbreakers and several state troopers rushed in, weapons drawn, quickly securing the exits.
Isadora stood alone on the center stage, trembling violently. When Marisol stopped at the base of the stairs, Isadora looked down at her, her eyes rimmed with red, mascara streaming down her pale cheeks.
"You planned this," Isadora choked out, her voice barely a whisper. "You let me treat you like garbage. You let me order you around, you let me kick you... just to humiliate me."
Marisol slowly walked up the steps until she was standing eye-to-eye with the fallen heiress.
"I didn't care about you, Isadora," Marisol said, her voice calm and devoid of malice. "You were simply a spoiled child playing with matches. I came here for the man who supplied the gasoline."
"You ruined my life!" Isadora screamed, lunging forward with her manicured nails. "My family gave you everything! We owned this city!"
Marisol didn't even flinch. She simply sidestepped the clumsy attack, caught Isadora by the wrist, and applied a gentle, precise pressure point on her forearm. Isadora gasped, her knees buckling, and dropped to the stage carpet.
"Your father built your entire life on the bones of innocent men and women," Gabriel said, stepping onto the stage beside Marisol. He looked down at Isadora with cold disappointment. "Every diamond you wear, every dress you bought, was paid for with blood money stolen from this country and my family’s name. You aren't a victim here, Isadora. You're just the beneficiary of a crime syndicate."
Federal agents swarmed the stage, gently but firmly escorting Isadora away as two more agents led a handcuffed Julian Beaumont through the ballroom in full view of the media cameras flashing through the tall French windows.
The ballroom was silent save for the clicks of cameras and the soft weeping of Judge Vance in the corner.
Julian Beaumont stopped as he was marched past Marisol. His face was gray, his empire shattered into a thousand jagged pieces.

"You think you’ve won, Captain?" Julian snarled through clenched teeth, his eyes burning with venom. "You think this ends with me? I was just a regional distributor. You have no idea whose money you just confiscated."
Marisol met his gaze without blinking. "I know exactly who they are, Julian. And tell them when you see them in federal lockup... I’m coming for them next."
