Chapter 8 - The Boardroom Showdown

The following Monday morning, the boardroom of the Sterling Grand was packed to capacity. The air was charged with electric tension.

At the head of the long marble table sat Richard Vance, a silver-haired titan of Manhattan real estate whose ruthless reputation was legendary. He was flanked by four high-priced corporate attorneys. His daughter Bianca was absent, currently out on bail and confined to her penthouse under house arrest.

"This meeting is a farce, Daniel," Richard Vance boomed, slamming his heavy palms onto the table. "You humiliated my daughter, had the audacity to press frivolous charges, and now you drag the board here to answer your childish complaints? I am calling our mezzanine loan due effective noon today. Sterling Grand Hospitality is insolvent."

Several older board members gasped, murmuring nervously.

"You can certainly try, Richard," Daniel replied from the opposite end of the table. He was dressed in a sharp charcoal three-piece suit, projecting an aura of absolute command. "However, pursuant to Section 14 of our operating agreement, any loan acceleration based on fraudulent inducement or criminal conduct by the lender is null and void."

"Criminal conduct?" Richard scoffed, letting out a condescending bark of laughter. "You have no evidence of anything except your own incompetence!"

"Allow me to introduce our Senior Operational Auditor," Daniel said calmly, gesturing toward the double doors. "Ms. Grace Mercer."

The room turned as I walked in. I wore a tailored black suit, carrying a thick binder of forensic exhibits alongside encrypted USB drives. I didn't look like a banquet server anymore. I looked like the person holding their financial lives in my hands.

"Who is this girl?" Richard snarled. "The waitress who attacked my daughter?"

"I am the auditor who discovered your Delaware shell companies, Mr. Vance," I said, stepping directly to the podium at the front of the room.

For the next twenty minutes, I systematically dismantled Richard Vance’s empire. I presented audited bank trails showing over forty million dollars in embezzled expansion capital. I showed fake construction invoices, forged signatures, and proof that Vance Holdings had used Sterling funds to settle secret off-the-books debts.

With every slide I advanced, Richard Vance's arrogant sneer crumbled. His attorneys were frantically whispering to him, their faces ash-white as they reviewed the certified bank documentation.

"In short, gentlemen," I concluded, looking squarely at the board, "Vance Holdings is not Sterling's creditor. Vance Holdings is a criminal enterprise that owes this corporation forty-two million dollars in restitution."

Daniel stood up, his voice cutting through the stunned silence. "I move for an immediate vote to strip Richard Vance of his board seat, seize his pledged equity, and refer these findings to the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York."

"Seconded," called out three board members simultaneously.

Richard Vance slowly stood up. The mighty titan looked broken, his hands trembling as he stared at me.

"You..." he rasped, his voice venomous. "You ruined my family."

May you like

"No, Mr. Vance," I said softly, meeting his gaze without flinching. "Your greed and your daughter's cruelty did that all on your own."
