Chapter 7 - The Eviction

The staff of the Grand Palisades Estate moved with the cold, mechanical efficiency of a cleaning crew clearing out a warehouse.
Kitchen workers in white aprons marched through the swinging doors with massive rolling trash bins, scraping prime rib cuts and untouched asparagus directly into plastic bags. Waiters stripped the silk tablecloths off empty tables while guests were still gathering their purses, folding up the chairs with loud, echoing clatters.
"Excuse me! That's my centerpiece!" a bridesmaid protested as a worker plucked an eight-hundred-dollar imported floral arrangement off her table.
"All floral rentals remain the property of the floral contractor until paid in full," the worker said without looking at her, dropping the arrangement into a cardboard crate and hauling it away.
Near the dessert station, two banquet attendants wheeled out the towering, six-tier fondant wedding cake. It had never been cut.
"Stop that!" Tiffany screamed, running toward them in her voluminous gown, nearly tripping over her own train. "That cake is mine! We paid for that cake!"
"Actually, ma'am," one of the attendants replied flatly, "the pastry chef’s invoice was tied to Mrs. Eleanor Vance’s primary master account. Per her instructions via management, cancelled provisions are returned to the commercial refrigeration unit for corporate salvage."
They rolled the towering cake straight past her, through the kitchen doors, and let the doors slam shut.
Guests were streaming toward the grand exit in droves now. The local country-club crowd, Tiffany’s former sorority sisters, Julian’s coworkers—none of them wanted to be anywhere near the blast zone when the authorities arrived. Many were filming openly, narrating the scandal for their social media followers.
*“Guys, you won’t believe this—Tiffany Miller’s wedding just got shut down by the venue... her dad’s cards just bounced for ninety grand... and the groom’s mom walked out after getting slapped...”*
Tiffany stood in the middle of the emptying hall, her makeup running in dark streaks down her face, screaming obscenities at the retreating backs of her friends.
"Get out! All of you, get out! None of you deserve to be here anyway!" she wailed, kicking a fallen wine glass across the floor. It shattered violently against the marble base of a pillar.
Marcus Vance stood by the entrance doors, holding the heavy exit open. He looked at Donald, who was sitting slumped at an empty table, his phone clutched lifelessly in his hand, completely defeated.
"Mr. Miller. Mrs. Miller. Mrs. Julian Vance," Marcus said, his voice echoing across the cavernous, half-cleared room. "The premises must be vacated within ten minutes. After that, our private security team will escort you to the gate, and local law enforcement will be invited to document any trespass."
He didn't wait for a response. He signaled his guards, who took up positions along the perimeter of the room.
