Chapter 11 - The Anomaly

Lucas stood at the center of the stage, adjusting the microphone with a practiced, charismatic smile that had charmed the elite for a decade.
"Distinguished guests, family, and friends," Lucas began, his voice echoing majestically through the ballroom. "Tonight is about honoring legacy, trust, and the future of Vance Capital. Many of you know that this evening was meant to mark the public announcement of my wedding date with Sophia Ward."
He paused, casting a mournful, sorrowful gaze in my direction. The guests turned to look at me, murmuring in anticipation.
"However," Lucas’s voice dropped into a somber, heavy register, "leadership requires truth, no matter how painful. Over the past seventy-two hours, evidence of severe emotional and financial betrayal has come to light. I cannot, in good conscience, unite my family’s name with someone who has secretly conspired against this foundation."
Gasps erupted across the ballroom. Cameras clicked furiously, pointing straight at my face. On the VIP balcony, Emma leaned forward over the gilded railing, her lips parted in eager, sadistic anticipation.
"I have instructed our technical team to project the unassailable proof of this infidelity onto the screen behind me," Lucas declared, raising his arm dramatically toward the massive display. "Let the truth be shown."
Lucas waited for the gasps of horror. He waited for me to fall to my knees, weeping in disgrace.
The 80-foot LED screen flickered.
Then, instead of hotel photos, the screen roared to life with high-definition audio and video from Derek Calloway’s apartment encounter.
Derek’s terrified, sweating face filled the entire wall:
*“Lucas Vance... he promised his custom Koenigsegg to whoever slept with Sophia, took photos, and leaked them to the board! He wanted an excuse to break the engagement without forfeiting his inheritance because Emma is coming back!”*
The ballroom froze in absolute, stunned silence.
Before Lucas could process what was happening, the video cut to internal bank transfers—crystal-clear documents displaying Lucas’s forged signatures, his shell company payouts, and Ryan Whitaker’s signed confession detailing the illegal maritime bribery and corporate sabotage.
The murmurs turned into a deafening roar of outrage. Journalists shoved forward, flashbulbs exploding like fireworks against Lucas’s pale, horror-struck face.
"Shut it off!" Lucas screamed into the microphone, his voice cracking in sheer panic. "Shut the screen off! Julian! Security!"
Down in the audience, Julian stood beside me, swirling his bourbon, watching his brother’s public execution with cold satisfaction.
"You're finished, Lucas," I whispered, loud enough to cut through the noise as the security guards scrambled in vain.
Lucas stumbled backward on the stage, looking up at the balcony toward Emma, silently begging for help.
I looked up at Emma, expecting to see her cowering in shame or fleeing the room.
Instead, Emma Sinclair was standing straight at the railing. She wasn't panicking. She wasn't crying.
Slowly, the delicate, angelic innocence completely melted off Emma’s face, replaced by a cold, calculating sneer that sent a sudden chill down my spine.
Suddenly, the translucent blue comments across my vision shattered into jagged, bleeding shards of crimson. A massive, violent siren echoed exclusively inside my mind as blinding gold letters burned themselves directly onto my retinas:
*CRITICAL SYSTEM WARNING: DIMENSIONAL OVERWRITE DETECTED.*
*ANOMALY IDENTIFIED: TARGET 'EMMA SINCLAIR' IS NOT AN NPC.*
*THE FEMALE LEAD POSSESSES AN S-TIER VILLAINESS REVERSAL SYSTEM.*
Emma tilted her head down toward me, her blue eyes flashing with a faint, iridescent violet glow.

She raised two fingers, tapped her ear, and mouthed three silent words straight into my eyes:
*Did you really think you were the only reader, Sophia?*
