Chapter 11 - The Final Pitch

The Davenport Group Grand Auditorium was filled to its five-hundred-seat capacity.
Wall Street analysts, institutional fund managers, major individual shareholders, and the entire board of directors sat beneath the blinding stage lights. Two massive forty-foot screens flanked the central podium.
Arthur Harrison stood at the lectern, his expression grim and formal.
"Welcome, shareholders," Harrison announced into the microphone. "Today, we address the strategic future of Davenport Group, the execution of the thirty-million-dollar Vance Logistics acquisition, and the formal appointment to the Regional Director's chair."
Before Harrison could announce Arianna's name, the side stage door was shoved open.
Logan Vance strode out onto the stage.
He held a presentation clicker high in the air, his chest out, a wild, magnetic intensity burning in his eyes. The shareholders buzzed with sudden murmurings.
"Pardon the interruption, Mr. Harrison," Logan projected boldly, ignoring Harrison’s warning glare. "Before the board casts its vote, the shareholders have a right to see the true blueprint for this company's future! A plan that Arianna Davenport and the current executive committee have attempted to suppress to protect their own legacy!"
Evelyn Davenport, sitting in the front row, did not move a muscle to stop him. She merely raised her chin and folded her hands.
Harrison took a step back, exchanging a silent nod with Evelyn. "You have five minutes, Mr. Vance. Show us what you have."
Logan grinned savagely. He plugged his thumb drive into the lectern’s master dock.
"Shareholders of Davenport," Logan shouted, turning toward the massive screen behind him. "I present to you the Vance Logistics integration deck—a strategic masterstroke that will deliver an immediate twenty-four percent margin increase through our proprietary offshore restructuring—"
He clicked the remote.
The screen flickered.
The title slide did not appear.
Instead, a high-definition video recording snapped into crystal-clear focus.
The timestamp in the corner read: *Drake Hotel, Room 608 — 11:42 PM.*
The entire auditorium fell into dead, horrified silence as Logan’s own voice blasted through the state-of-the-art surround sound speakers, echoing off the high ceilings with devastating clarity:
*"...Arianna thinks she’s a powerhouse. She thinks next week’s shareholder meeting is going to hand her the Director’s chair... I took a safety pin to every single foil pack in our nightstand... She’s pregnant. Confirmed it yesterday... In six months, she’ll be drowning in morning sickness and nursery colors... The seat is mine."*
Logan’s voice on stage died in his throat. His arm froze in midair, still pointing the clicker at the screen.
The video cut immediately to a high-resolution split screen showing Logan’s personal banking records, his encrypted emails to Richard Vance at Apex Capital, and the forensic metadata proving corporate espionage, followed by photographic evidence of the perforated condoms stamped with Northwestern Hospital’s chain-of-custody evidence seals.
Gasps of utter revulsion and fury erupted across the five hundred seats. Shareholders stood up, shouting. Journalists frantically raised their cameras, flashes exploding in rapid-fire bursts against the stage.
"Turn it off!" Logan screamed, smashing the clicker against the podium. "Turn it off! That's not the file! It’s a hack! It’s a setup!"
From the stage wings, Arianna walked out into the blinding light.
She did not rush. She walked with the slow, magnificent poise of an apex predator. In her hand, she held a wireless microphone.
"It is not a hack, Logan," Arianna's voice resonated through the auditorium, silencing the chaos like a crack of thunder.
She stopped three feet from him, looking down at his trembling, sweating form.
"It is your confession."
At that exact moment, the heavy double doors at the back of the auditorium slammed open.
Four armed federal marshals and two Chicago police detectives walked down the center aisle, their badges gleaming under the chandeliers.
Logan looked at the police, then back at Arianna, his sanity snapping. With a feral roar, he lunged across the stage straight at her throat—
May you like
"You ruined me!" he screamed.
Arianna didn't flinch. But before his hands could touch her, a figure burst from the wings, tackling Logan hard against the granite podium—and as Logan crashed to the stage floor, a sharp, metallic object slipped from his jacket pocket and skittered across the polished wood, stopping inches from Arianna’s heels.
