Chapter 7 - Hidden Cameras

Ethan didn't flinch. Instead, he reached into his desk drawer and pulled out a small black flash drive, setting it gently beside the lawyer's briefcase.
"You’re right about one thing, Bianca," Ethan said smoothly. "You did disable the main security servers. You even paid fifty thousand dollars in cash to the IT technician to wipe the backup cloud storage."
Bianca’s confident smirk flickered.
"What you forgot," Ethan continued, tapping the flash drive with a single finger, "is who built this house."
He turned the laptop toward Arthur Vance and pressed play.
On the screen, a crystal-clear, high-definition angle appeared—not from the ceiling corners where the commercial cameras hung, but from inside the vintage oak door's decorative brass molding. It looked directly into the west wing hallway and the children's room.
"When Clara became pregnant with quadruplets," Ethan explained softly, his voice devoid of warmth, "she was terrified of sudden infant death syndrome. She had private, hardwired pinhole cameras installed inside the nursery doorframes. They don't run on the mansion’s Wi-Fi. They don't connect to the main security network. They feed directly into a private server stored in my personal safe in Manhattan."
Bianca's face went from pale to ghostly gray. Her breath hitched.
On the screen, the timestamp read: *December 21, 11:14 PM.*
The video showed Bianca entering the cold room wearing a mink coat. Mia was crying, asking for a blanket because her feet hurt from the cold.
On the screen, Bianca slapped Mia's hand away from the wardrobe door.
*“Shut up, you little parasite,”* Bianca’s voice echoed clearly through the laptop speakers. *“Your father isn't coming back for you. If you make another sound, I’ll lock the bathroom door and leave you in the dark until New Year's.”*
Then, the camera captured Bianca taking the thermostat key from her pocket, locking the radiator valve shut, and tossing half a loaf of stale bread onto the floor like feed for stray animals.
Arthur Vance, Bianca’s ruthless attorney, closed his eyes and slowly slid his briefcase off the desk. He stood up, refusing to look at his client.
"Mr. Vance," the lawyer whispered, clear dread in his tone. "I... I can no longer represent Mrs. Vance. My firm withdraws immediately."
"Arthur! Sit down!" Bianca shrieked, jumping to her feet. "You work for me! I paid you!"
May you like
"You paid me with his money," the lawyer said bluntly, walking straight out the double doors without looking back.
