Chapter 7 - The Annulment and the Asset Recovery

Monday morning arrived with crisp autumn sunlight streaming through the windows of the Hillsborough County Family Court.

Accompanied by my corporate attorney and Detective Miller, I walked up the marble steps of the courthouse. Flashbulbs popped blindingly as local reporters and paparazzi swarmed the entrance, shouting questions about the collapsing Langston real estate empire and the sudden, explosive criminal charges filed against Regina and Marcelo.

Inside the courtroom, the atmosphere was tense and suffocating.

Judge Sarah Jenkins, a formidable jurist known for her zero-tolerance policy on financial fraud and marital deception, sat behind the mahogany bench with a stern, unimpressed expression.

Marcelo and Regina sat at the defense table. Regina looked a decade older, her expensive makeup unable to mask the sheer panic and exhaustion etched into her face. Marcelo stared straight down at the polished wooden table, refusing to make eye contact with anyone in the gallery.

“Case number 2026-FR-8894, Langston versus Langston regarding emergency marital annulment and asset restitution,” the bailiff announced loudly.

My attorney stepped forward, presenting a thick, bound dossier containing all the forensic accounting reports, the forged power of attorney documents, and the signed wire transfer logs.

“Your Honor,” my attorney stated clearly, “we are presenting irrefutable evidence of premeditated financial fraud, forgery, and identity theft executed under the fraudulent guise of a legal marriage contract. Furthermore, we are filing for an immediate emergency annulment on the grounds of fraud in the inducement.”

Judge Jenkins flipped through the pages of the dossier, her eyebrows rising higher with every document she examined. When she reached the section detailing the unauthorized wire transfers totaling over $450,00zych from my personal and corporate accounts, she paused and looked directly across the courtroom at Marcelo and his defense counsel.

“Mr. Langston,” Judge Jenkins said, her voice cutting through the silent courtroom like a scalpel. “Do you or your counsel wish to contest these findings?”

Marcelo’s defense attorney stood up, sweating profusely, and stammered, “Your Honor, my clients maintain that these transactions were part of a standard marital asset consolidation agreement agreed upon during the engagement period—”

“An agreement signed using a forged notary stamp and executed without the petitioner’s informed consent?” Judge Jenkins interrupted sharply. “Counsel, your clients are looking at federal wire fraud charges alongside state felony forgery. Do not insult this court’s intelligence.”

The judge didn't hesitate for another second.

“The petition for immediate emergency annulment is granted,” Judge Jenkins declared, slamming her gavel down with a sharp, echoing crack. “Furthermore, I am issuing an immediate writ of attachment freezing all remaining Langston family assets, real estate holdings, and corporate accounts, with full restitution ordered immediately to the petitioner, Elena Vance.”

A collective gasp echoed through the gallery. Regina slumped forward in her chair, burying her face in her hands as federal marshals stepped forward to serve formal notice of the asset seizure.

I stood up slowly, adjusted the lapels of my tailored blazer, and walked out of the courtroom with my head held high. The nightmare was officially over.
