Chapter 10 - A Vow of Light

One year later, the grand hallway of the Sinclair Estate was once again filled with the scent of fresh flowers.
This time, however, there were no cold white lilies or stiff, suffocating arrangements designed to impress high-society socialites. Instead, the arched corridor was alive with wild sunflowers, fragrant lavender, and vibrant yellow roses—Elena's favorite flowers, harvested directly from the private gardens she had planted years ago.
The high-ceilinged corridor was filled with golden morning light that flooded through the open terrace doors. Soft, joyful acoustic guitar music drifted from the garden, where seventy close friends, charitable partners, and genuine family had gathered beneath the summer sky.
Ethan Sinclair stood beside the grand staircase, dressed in an impeccably tailored charcoal suit. His face was relaxed, radiant with a joy so profound it seemed to erase every shadow of the past two years.
Standing right beside him, acting as the Junior Maid of Honor, was eight-year-old Mia. She wore an ivory dress with a sunflower sash, holding a wicker basket filled with rose petals. She was glowing with health, her laughter ringing out across the hall as she practiced scattering petals along the runner.
The heavy oak doors at the end of the private wing swung open.
Ethan turned his head, and his breath caught entirely in his throat.
Claire stepped into the corridor, escorted by Dr. Marcus Hayes, who had become a beloved honorary grandfather to the family.
Claire was breathtaking. She wore an off-the-shoulder gown of pure ivory lace, elegant and timeless, cascading gently down to the polished marble floor. Her auburn hair was pinned back with delicate pearl combs, allowing soft waves to frame her radiant face. In her hands, she carried a bouquet of sunflowers and wild ivy.
She wasn't wearing a disguise. She wasn't carrying a weapon. She was a woman who had walked through fire, fought through the darkest shadows of greed and treachery, and had arrived at the shore of true peace.
As their eyes met across the sunlit hallway, Claire’s lips curved into that familiar, brilliant smile that had saved Ethan's life in this very corridor one year ago.
Dr. Hayes brought Claire to the foot of the stairs, placed her hand gently into Ethan’s, and gave Ethan a firm, approving nod before stepping into the garden.
Ethan took Claire’s hands into his own. His fingers were trembling slightly, not from fear, but from the overwhelming weight of his good fortune.
"You are the most magnificent woman I have ever seen," Ethan whispered, his deep voice thick with emotion.
"You clean up pretty well yourself, Sinclair," Claire teased softly, her green eyes sparkling with pure love.
Mia stepped forward, tugging gently on Claire’s lace sleeve. "You look like a real princess, Claire. Not a mean one like in the books. A brave one."
Claire knelt down, not caring about wrinkling her designer dress, and kissed Mia’s forehead tenderly. "And you, Mia Sinclair, are the bravest girl in the world. Ready to make this official?"
"Ready!" Mia cheered, spinning around and leading the way out toward the garden terrace, enthusiastically flinging rose petals into the air.
Ethan offered his arm to Claire. As she slipped her hand into the crook of his elbow, she looked down at the marble floor beneath their feet.
Exactly one year ago, on this exact square of stone, a glass table had shattered, a deadly syringe had been crushed, and a treacherous vow had been broken.
Now, on that very same marble, sunlight warmed the stone, illuminating their path forward.
"No more ghosts," Claire said softly, looking up into Ethan's eyes.
May you like
"No more ghosts," Ethan agreed, leaning down to press a tender, lingering kiss against her lips. "Only the future."
Together, hand in hand, with Mia leading the way in a shower of golden petals, they walked out into the warm, endless light of their new life.
