Chapter 10 - THE UNBROKEN PATH

The sun was setting over the Virginia countryside, painting the sky in fiery shades of gold, rose, and amber.
Rebecca walked slowly up a grassy hill overlooking a quiet, peaceful lake. She wore a comfortable cream-colored knit sweater and dark trousers, the autumn breeze blowing her hair gently back from her face.
There were no marble floors here. No crystal chandeliers, no screaming voices, and no heavy hands around her throat.
She reached the top of the hill and sat down on a rustic wooden bench, pulling her coat comfortably around her shoulders. She looked down at her hands—hands that had once clutched at her father’s wrists in terror, hands that had worked through endless nights compiling evidence, hands that were now completely free.
Beside her on the bench lay a small framed photo. It showed her and Tyler standing outside their new office building, both laughing under the bright summer sun.
Rebecca reached out, her fingers gently touching the edge of the frame.
She remembered the night in the foyer—the pain of her father’s grip, the coldness of her sister’s heel, the terrifying silence of her mother. They had tried to break her, tried to push her down onto the cold stone floor and force her to remember her place.
But they had forgotten one fundamental truth: stone breaks before steel does.

Rebecca drew a deep, long breath of the cool evening air, filling her lungs completely, feeling the strength in her neck, her chest, and her heart.
She had survived the fall. She had dismantled the empire of lies. And standing on the high ground of her own making, her future was limitless, bright, and entirely her own.
