Chapter 6 - The Fall of Sterling Global

By Wednesday, the dominoes I had tipped over began falling with terrifying speed.

Without the two million dollars in capital I had recalled, Sterling Global failed its mandatory SEC capital compliance audit. Federal regulators swooped into their Midtown offices at 8:00 AM, locking the doors, seizing server drives, and issuing freeze orders on every account managed by the firm.

At 1:00 PM, I held a private press conference at the Apex Capital headquarters in Financial District.

Over thirty financial journalists sat in the gallery, flashbulbs popping continuously as I walked up to the podium, wearing a crisp white blazer, my posture erect, standing beside Sarah and my chief forensic auditor, David Lin.

“Good afternoon,” I began, my voice steady and clear. “I am Evelyn Vance, Founder and CEO of Apex Capital Solutions. Today, I am officially confirming that Apex Capital has severed all institutional ties with Sterling Global.”

A reporter raised his hand immediately. “Ms. Vance! Is it true that Daniel Sterling was using client funds to finance personal luxuries and offshore shell accounts?”

David Lin stepped up to the secondary microphone.

“Our internal audit revealed that over the past thirty-six months, Mr. Sterling systematically misappropriated approximately $4.8 million from corporate lines of credit,” David explained, holding up a thick binder of audited bank records. “These funds were funneled into private real estate leases, personal credit cards, and unauthorized luxury purchases.”

The room exploded into noise, reporters shouting questions simultaneously.

“Ms. Vance!” a woman from the Wall Street Journal called out. “How does this affect your personal estate, given your marriage to Mr. Sterling?”

I looked straight into the news cameras, knowing that every television monitor in the city—including the ones inside Rikers Island—would be broadcasting this moment.

“My marriage to Daniel Sterling is officially over,” I stated firmly. “A formal petition for divorce on the grounds of felony cruelty, fraud, and irretrievable breakdown has been filed with the New York Supreme Court. Apex Capital has assumed full management of all legitimate assets previously held by Sterling Global, ensuring every innocent client is fully made whole.”

I leaned closer to the microphone.

“Daniel Sterling built an image of wealth, power, and authority,” I concluded softly. “In reality, he was an employee living on borrowed time and stolen equity. That time has expired.”

I stepped away from the podium without taking further questions, leaving the press room in total chaos as the story swept across every major business network in the country:
