Chapter 6 - THE WOMAN WHO TRIED TO STEAL A FAMILY

Isabella's return should have been a celebration.

Instead, Cecilia made it a war.

By the following morning, rumors were circulating among São Paulo's wealthiest families. Anonymous messages accused Helena of manipulating Dante, fabricating Isabella's identity, and attempting to gain control of the Montenegro estate.

A photograph of Helena holding the twins appeared on several gossip accounts.

The caption called her an opportunist.

Dante wanted the posts removed immediately.

Helena stopped him.

“If you silence everyone, they'll say I'm afraid of the truth.”

“They're attacking you.”

“Then let the truth speak louder.”

She had spent her life watching her mother work honestly while powerful people escaped consequences. She refused to become another person protected by wealth.

Meanwhile, Isabella began rebuilding her relationship with her sons.

The first meeting was painful.

Tomás stared at her without recognizing her.

Miguel hid behind Helena.

Isabella sat on the nursery floor and opened a small wooden box containing their baby blankets.

“I used to sing to you,” she whispered.

She began the lullaby.

Tomás slowly approached.

Miguel followed.

By the final verse, both boys were sitting beside her.

They didn't immediately call her Mama.

But Tomás touched her cheek.

And Isabella smiled.

It was the beginning.

Cecilia watched the reunion from the hallway, her expression hardening.

She had expected Isabella to return weak, confused, and incapable of challenging her. Instead, the woman was recovering quickly and had begun asking questions about the foundation.

Worse, Dante had started reviewing the estate's financial records.

Cecilia had diverted millions through shell companies over six years. The missing funds had supported her private investments and purchased the loyalty of several intermediaries.

If Dante found the records, her position would collapse.

She arranged a meeting with Rafael Viana, a former business partner of Dante's who had long wanted access to the Montenegro empire.

Rafael proposed a solution: expose Dante's criminal associations, portray Isabella's return as a fraudulent scheme, and force a legal dispute over guardianship and the family trust.

Cecilia agreed.

But she underestimated Helena.

While helping Isabella organize old correspondence, Helena discovered a letter from Mariana.

The letter contained bank references, dates, and the name of a storage company.

Inside a rented archive unit, Dante's investigators recovered original financial ledgers and recordings documenting Cecilia's instructions to divert the foundation's money.

The evidence was devastating.

Dante confronted Cecilia in the library.

“Tell me these records are fake.”

She glanced at the documents.

Then she looked at him.

“You think your wife is innocent? You think this family built its fortune without compromises?”

“This is about the money you stole.”

“I kept this family functioning while you were busy playing king.”

“You used my children.”

Cecilia's composure finally shattered.

“I did what I had to do!”

“You threatened Isabella.”

“She was going to take everything away from me!”

Dante stepped back as if her confession had struck him physically.

Cecilia had not simply betrayed his trust.

She had built her life around the belief that his family belonged to her.

Now she had finally admitted it.

And Dante intended to make certain that her actions would have consequences.
