Chapter 10 - RECLAIMING THE HEAVENS

Three years after the slap in the dining room.
The warm summer afternoon breeze blew through the gardens of my family's estate in Gold Coast.
Children were running across the green lawn, their laughter filling the air as our charitable foundation celebrated its annual family summer picnic. Over a hundred families, doctors, and volunteers were gathered under bright white tents, enjoying food, music, and sunshine.
I stood under the shade of an old oak tree, wearing a comfortable white summer dress, holding a cup of sweet iced tea.
Beside me stood Liam Vance—Howard's nephew, a brilliant, humble pediatric surgeon whom I had met through our foundation work two years ago. He was a kind, steady man with warm brown eyes and a laugh that made my heart feel completely light.
"You look deep in thought," Liam said softly, gently resting his hand over mine.
I looked at him, feeling a deep, profound sense of peace settling into my chest.
"I was just thinking about how strange life is," I smiled, leaning my head against his shoulder. "Three years ago, I thought my world had ended in this very building."
"And now?" Liam asked softly, brushing a strand of hair behind my ear.
"And now I know it was just beginning," I answered.
In the distance, the afternoon news broadcast was playing quietly on a outdoor television screen under the main pavilion.
The anchor's voice reported briefly:
"Former corporate executive Julian Bennett was denied parole today for his second time following his conviction in the multi-million-dollar Hartwell Industries fraud case. Meanwhile, Hartwell Industries reached a historical valuation today of $5 billion under the leadership of Chairwoman Maya Hartwell..."
I didn't turn around to watch the broadcast. I didn't need to.
I looked down at the delicate porcelain cup in my hand, taking a quiet, satisfying sip.
It wasn't a symbol of a lie anymore. It wasn't something to be fought over or claimed by thieves in secret.
May you like
It was just a cup of tea, held by a woman who owned her company, her legacy, her story, and her future.
I took Liam's hand, walked out into the warm, bright sunshine toward the laughing children on the lawn, leaving the shadows of the past behind forever.
