Chapter 10 - A New Dawn

The morning sun broke through the tall stained-glass windows of the Moretti private chapel, casting vibrant shades of sapphire and gold across the pews.
There were no paparazzi, no society journalists, and no deceitful allies in attendance. Only Marco, a handful of Luca’s most trusted men, and Father Antonio, the elderly priest who had baptized Luca thirty years ago.
I stood before the full-length antique mirror in Donna Isabella’s private dressing room, staring at my reflection in complete disbelief.
The ivory silk wedding gown fit me as if it had been tailored for my body. The intricate lace along the sleeves clung softly to my arms, and the restored pearls at the neckline shimmered with quiet elegance. My hair was pinned up in loose, romantic curls, secured by the antique pearl veil that had remained hidden in the cedar chest for two decades.
The door opened, and Marco stepped in, wearing a sharp black tuxedo. When he saw me, a genuine, respectful smile crossed his weathered face. He placed a hand over his heart and bowed his head slightly.
“You look breathtaking, Donna Emma,” Marco said with sincere reverence. “The Boss is waiting at the altar. And for the first time in ten years, I saw him smile.”
A flutter of nervous joy danced in my chest. “Thank you, Marco. For everything.”
“No,” Marco replied, offering me his arm. “Thank you for bringing our Luca back to life.”
I took his arm, taking a deep breath as the organ began to play a soft, regal melody. The heavy oak doors of the chapel swung open, and the sunlight nearly blinded me.
And there he was.
Luca stood at the end of the aisle, dressed in an immaculate charcoal-grey tuxedo. The ruthless, terrifying mafia boss had disappeared. In his place stood a man looking at me with such raw, unadulterated devotion that my knees nearly gave out. His dark eyes glistened with unshed tears as I walked toward him, step by step, carrying his mother’s legacy into his future.
When I reached the altar, Luca stepped down to meet me. He didn't wait for Father Antonio to begin. He reached out with both hands, lifting my delicate veil, his gaze sweeping over my face as if committing every detail to memory.
“You are more beautiful than a dream, Emma,” he whispered, his voice trembling slightly.
“I’m here, Luca,” I whispered back. “And I’m not going anywhere.”
Father Antonio cleared his throat with a warm smile, beginning the sacred vows. With every word spoken, the heavy shadow that had hung over the Moretti name for twenty years seemed to lift, replaced by light, promise, and redemption.
When Luca slid Donna Isabella’s sapphire ring onto my finger, it felt like coming home.
“By the power vested in me,” Father Antonio announced, “I now pronounce you husband and wife. Luca, you may kiss your bride.”
Luca didn't hesitate. He pulled me into his arms, dipping me slightly as his lips met mine in a kiss that sealed our souls together. The chapel erupted in cheers from Marco and the men, their applause echoing off the sacred stone walls.
For the first time in my life, I felt safe. I felt loved.
We walked back down the aisle hand-in-hand, stepping out into the radiant afternoon sun as husband and wife. Luca looked down at me, a genuine, radiant smile illuminating his handsome face. He lifted my hand, pressing a kiss to the sapphire ring.

“Tonight, we celebrate our new beginning,” Luca declared, pulling me close to his side. “No more ghosts. No more secrets.”
