Chapter 10 - Crushing the Snake

Daniel stared at the document, his trembling fingers refusing to open the folder. The reality of his complete, irreversible downfall hit him like a freight train.

"Emily... you can't do this," he whispered, tears burning his eyes. "I built this company from the ground up! My name is on the building!"

"Your name will be chiseled off the marble exterior by noon," I replied, my voice ringing with total authority. "You didn't build this company, Daniel. You burned through your father's inheritance and covered your gross incompetence with my intellectual labor. Every single patent, every zoning approval, every structural blueprint that made this firm profitable over the last four years was drafted by my hands in the home office while you were out at country clubs."

I signaled to Vance, who stepped forward with a secondary document.

"As majority shareholder," I announced to the silent room, "I move to terminate Daniel Whitmore as Chief Executive Officer immediately, for cause, without severance or stock realization."

"Seconded," Chairman Henderson mumbled instantly.

"All in favor?"

Every single hand at the table went up into the air.

Daniel backed toward the door, clutching his chest as if he couldn't breathe. "You're a monster... both of you! You set me up!"

"No, Daniel," my father said, speaking for the first time. He set his espresso cup down with a light click. "You set yourself up the moment you mistook my daughter's grace for weakness."

The boardroom doors opened again, but it wasn't security.

Two uniformed detectives from the Special Victims Unit and two federal agents stepped into the room.

"Daniel Whitmore?" Detective Morrison asked, pulling a pair of steel handcuffs from his utility belt.

"No... stay back!" Daniel yelled, tripping over his own feet and slamming into the glass credenza.

"You are under arrest for felony domestic violence, aggravated assault, and three counts of federal bank fraud regarding falsified loan applications," Morrison stated coldly, grabbing Daniel by the arms and twisting them behind his back with practiced efficiency.

The sharp *click* of the handcuffs locking around his wrists echoed through the boardroom. Daniel began to scream, sobbing uncontrollably, begging the board members to help him, begging me for mercy.

I didn't blink. I watched him being dragged out of the room—not across a marble floor this time, but straight toward an elevator that would take him to a concrete holding cell.
