Chapter 8 - The Eviction Notice

On Thursday morning, the local sheriff's department arrived at 412 Elm Street.
I didn't go in person, but Mark’s paralegal was on site with the certified eviction paperwork. Under the terms of the holding LLC’s emergency receivership, the property was seized pending formal liquidation to satisfy unpaid administrative liens and damages.
Eleanor didn't go quietly.
A neighbor across the street livestreamed the entire spectacle to the local community Facebook group. Eleanor stood on the manicured lawn in her silk blouse, screaming at two female deputies while cardboard boxes of her belongings were stacked along the curb.
"My daughter is a monster!" she shrieked into the neighborhood air, her voice echoing between the quiet suburban homes. "She stole this house from us! She abandoned her elderly parents for a foster stray! I gave her life, and she leaves me on the street!"
Rachel arrived in a beat-up sedan borrowed from an acquaintance, sobbing hysterically as she tried to salvage her designer clothes from the lawn before the morning dew ruined the fabric.
The comments on the livestream were a flurry of horrified neighborhood gossip:
*Is that Eleanor Campbell?*
*What happened to Arthur’s business?*
*Wait, didn't Sarah buy that house for them years ago?*
*Someone said she robbed her grandchild's college fund!*
By midday, Eleanor launched a full-scale public relations assault. She posted a tearful, highly edited video on her personal social media page, tagging every member of our extended family, our hometown church, and local business leaders. She positioned herself as a pious, suffering grandmother victimized by a vindictive, power-hungry daughter who had turned her back on God and family.
My phone blew up with messages from distant cousins, former high school teachers, and church elders:
*Sarah, family forgives. Don't do this to your mother.*
*Honor thy father and mother, Sarah.*
*Think of the scandal!*
I didn't reply to a single message. Instead, I forwarded the livestream recording, Eleanor’s video, and the comments directly to Detective Miller and Mark Vance.
"Is the public release ready?" I texted Mark.

"Signed, sealed, and legally vetted," Mark responded. "Say the word."
"Release it."
