Chapter 7 - The Red Carpet of Lies

By two in the afternoon, the historic estate was swarming with luxury vehicles, paparazzi, and influencers wearing coordinated pastel dresses. Sutton’s public relations team had turned the perimeter into a full-blown red carpet, complete with a step-and-repeat banner boasting corporate sponsors who had donated luxury swag bags in exchange for bridal tags.
I watched the live updates from my hospital bed, flanked by Liam and an IT forensics specialist named Marcus.
On Instagram, Sutton was already posting behind-the-scenes stories:
*Getting ready with my amazing bridal party! Missing my little sister Fallon today, who couldn't make it due to a tragic fall at the rehearsal. Praying for your recovery, angel! 🕊️💔 #FamilyFirst #SisterlyLove*
The comments were overflowing with sycophantic praise:
*You have such a big heart, Sutton!*
*So brave of her to continue smiling on her big day!*
*Fallon is so lucky to have you as a sister!*
"She really believes she’s untouchable," Marcus muttered, typing furiously on his laptop as he mirrored the estate's ballroom control systems. "I’ve bypassed the venue’s AV firewall. The central projector in the Grand Ballroom is now slaved to our feed. Whatever we push from this tablet will play across all six sixty-five-inch displays and the twenty-foot central screen behind the head table."
"What about Harrison?" I asked.
Liam checked his watch. "He’s in the groom’s suite, dressed in his tuxedo. His parents have already arrived and taken their seats in the front row. Per our agreement, Harrison has not told his parents yet—he wanted them to witness the truth in real-time so they wouldn't try to sweep it under the rug to save social face."
My heart hammered against my ribs. In less than an hour, the ceremony would begin in the estate's private glass chapel. Then, the entire congregation would move into the Grand Ballroom for the formal dinner and first dance.
That was when the trap would spring.
"Fallon," Liam said, turning to me with a serious expression. "Once Marcus hits this button, there is no going back. The civil lawsuit for intentional infliction of emotional distress, battery, and fraud will be served to her publicly. The district attorney has also reviewed the raw audio we submitted—two detectives from the major crimes division are already en route to the venue with an arrest warrant."
I looked at the external steel pins protruding from my leg, remembering the sensation of my bone snapping while Sutton laughed above me.

"Hit the button when Harrison gives the signal," I said. "Don't hold back a single second."
