Chapter 5 - The Traitor Groom

I stared at Liam Bennett, struggling to process his words through the haze of pain medication. "Harrison hired you? For *me*?"
"Harrison is currently sitting in his car in the hospital parking garage," Liam replied, pulling a chair up beside the bed and opening a thick legal folder. "He couldn't come up because your mother and sister have scouts at the venue monitoring his whereabouts. But he called me at four in the morning."
"Why would he do that?" I asked. "He's marrying Sutton in less than eight hours."
Liam gave me a grim, knowing look. "Harrison has been looking for a way out of this engagement for three months. Sutton and your mother have been bleeding his family's trust dry with venue upgrades, media consultants, and extortionate demands. But last night crossed a line from vanity into criminal behavior."
Liam turned a tablet toward me, showing a bank statement and a legal contract.
"Harrison didn't just hire me to represent your civil suit," Liam continued. "He handed me the financial trail. Your sister has been taking out personal loans against the joint account they opened for the wedding. She owes over three hundred thousand dollars to high-interest private lenders to finance her fake influencer lifestyle."
I leaned back against the thin hospital pillows, my head spinning. "She was counting on Dad's inheritance to bail her out after the ceremony."
"Precisely," Liam nodded. "She assumed that once she married into Harrison’s family, she would force you to liquidate your father’s estate. She didn't realize that your father specifically placed the entire commercial real estate portfolio into an irrevocable trust—with you as the sole trustee until you turn thirty."
"And she broke my leg to keep me from attending the dinner where the family attorney was supposed to review the trust conditions," I whispered, the pieces finally slotting together into a grotesque puzzle.
"She wanted you incapacitated so she could petition for temporary power of attorney over the estate before the wedding debts came due on Monday," Liam confirmed coldly. "It was never just for content, Fallon. The TikTok video was her alibi to make it look like an accidental fall caused by your own negligence."
A cold thrill ran down my spine. The brutality of my sister's greed was breathtaking. She didn't just want a viral video; she wanted to cripple me financially and physically to save herself from financial ruin.
"What do we do?" I asked, my voice steadying.
Liam smiled, a thin, dangerous expression. "We have two choices. We can have the district attorney file aggravated assault charges right now, which will pause the wedding while the police arrest her in her dressing room."
"And the second choice?"
Liam leaned in, his gray eyes glinting. "Harrison wants her exposed. Completely. In front of every socialite, brand sponsor, and investor she invited to the gala reception. He wants to let her walk down that aisle, thinking she has won everything... and then strip every single lie away in front of two hundred people."
I looked down at the massive steel frame pinning my shattered bone together. The throbbing ache in my leg seemed to fade, replaced by a ruthless clarity.

"Option two," I said without hesitation. "Bring Harrison up here. We have a wedding to plan."
