Chapter 7 - The Unraveling of Daniel

The Harrington family didn't survive the week.

Faced with the choice between federal prison for embezzlement and total financial surrender, Charles signed over every remaining asset of Harrington Logistics to my corporate holdings in exchange for a sealed settlement that kept him and Ethan out of handcuffs.

The historic Harrington estate went up for emergency auction within ten days. Margaret and Charles were forced to pack their remaining belongings into a modest suburban rental home, their high-society friends suddenly forgetting how to return their phone calls.

Ethan quietly packed his bags, severed ties with his parents, and moved across the country to start a new life in Seattle, sending me a short, handwritten note apologizing for his cowardice on the morning of the wedding.

And Daniel?

Daniel discovered what happens when a man whose entire identity is built on borrowed money and unearned privilege is suddenly stripped of both. The private lenders he owed millions to didn't care about his family name or his tailored suits. Within three weeks of the annulment, photos surfaced in local tabloids of his luxury sports cars being repossessed outside a downtown apartment complex where he had been forced to crash on a friend's couch.

He tried calling my office three dozen times.

He left tearful voicemails begging for a second chance, claiming he had lost his mind, that he loved me, that he was stressed about the wedding.

I forwarded every single voicemail directly to my divorce attorney to be attached to the permanent restraining order file. I never listened to a single second of them.
