Chapter 11 - The Final Warning Unlocked

The grand salon was secured within minutes. Federal marshals, Army CID investigators, and forensic teams moved through the room like an efficient swarm of locusts, bagging the mercenaries' weapons, securing Arthur's private phone, and sealing off the estate as an active crime scene.
Arthur was led away in heavy iron restraints, his head bowed, refusing to look at me as he was shoved into the back of an armored federal transport van idling in the torrential rain. Julian had to be physically carried out by two agents, his legs completely giving out from sheer panic.
The family empire, built on sixty years of service and thirty years of Arthur’s hidden greed, had unraveled in less than an hour.
I stood by the shattered windows of the library, the cold Virginia wind whipping my short hair against my cheek. General Holloway walked over, slipping his sidearm back into its holster, and offered me a thermal flask of black coffee.
"It's over, Clarissa," Holloway said quietly. "The DOJ has already frozen every domestic and offshore account tied to Vance Industries. The board members who ran are being picked up at Dulles Airport as we speak. Your grandfather's legacy is safe."
"It's not over, Marcus," I replied, staring out at the dark treeline bordering the estate grounds.
I pulled the encrypted tablet from my dress uniform.
"There was a sub-directory in Project Chimera," I said, tapping the screen. "A final voice log that Grandfather recorded six hours before the digitalis stopped his heart. It required two biometric keys to decrypt—mine, and Arthur’s arrest confirmation from the federal database."
Holloway frowned, stepping closer as the screen flashed from red to amber: **AUTHORIZATION CONFIRMED — FINAL DISPATCH UNSEALED.**
An audio waveform appeared on the display. I tapped play.
The faint sound of an oxygen machine hissed through the speaker, followed by Grandfather’s ragged, dying voice.
*"Clarissa... if you are hearing this, Arthur is in chains. But you must listen to me very carefully. Arthur is a fool. He is a greedy, weak-minded courier. He did not build Chimera. He didn't have the brains for it."*
The voice paused, coughing heavily.
*"The man who bought the coagulant... the man who commissioned the neurotoxin trials... he isn't in Eastern Europe. The Apex Syndicate is a ghost front. The real buyer is sitting inside the Pentagon. He sits on the Joint Chiefs."*
Holloway’s face drained of all color. He reached for his radio. "Command, this is Holloway, I need—"
Grandfather’s voice surged from the tablet, desperate and gasping:
*"Clarissa... the man who poisoned me was at the funeral today. He's standing in the house right now, wearing—"*
*CRACK.*
A high-caliber sniper round tore through the library wall, shattering the concrete molding three inches from my ear.

The emergency generators died instantly, plunging the entire estate into pitch-black darkness.
And in the pitch black, a single, pulsating red laser dot appeared against the center of my chest.
