Chapter 10 - THE MASTERPIECE OF TOMORROW

Five years after the fire, Carter Design was internationally recognized as the premier luxury event-styling firm on the East Coast.
We had offices in New York, Atlanta, and Charlotte. Our team had grown from thirty employees to over a hundred. We styled weddings for billionaires, galas for heads of state, and architectural installations that graced the covers of global design magazines.
I was sitting in my private corner office on the top floor of our downtown headquarters, reviewing architectural blueprints for our upcoming European expansion.
The door opened softly, and Hayes walked in, holding a sleek silver tablet and a cup of black coffee.
"Your 10:00 AM meeting with the Parisian investors has been confirmed," Hayes said, setting the tablet on my desk. "And the board of directors unanimously approved the London branch acquisition."
I looked up, smiling as I leaned back in my leather executive chair. "Thank you, Hayes. You’ve been the anchor through every storm."
"We survived the fire, Mave," he said with a warm grin. "A little smoke was never going to stop us."
After Hayes left, I walked over to the floor-to-ceiling glass window, looking out over the sprawling city skyline of Charlotte. The morning sun cast a golden glow across the glass and steel, illuminating the city below with brilliant clarity.
I raised my right hand, catching the reflection of the morning light against my scarred skin. The burns had faded over the years into soft, silvery lines—permanent badges of honor from a night that was supposed to destroy me, but instead forged me into someone unbreakable.
They thought the fire would erase everything.
They forgot what survived that night.
