Chapter 9 - SUNLIGHT ON REFORMA

The heavy oak doors of the federal courthouse swung open as Mariana and Octavio stepped out onto the sunlit stone steps. A wall of camera flashes erupted instantly, blinding white lights illuminating the plaza as reporters shouted questions over one another.
“Señora Alvarado! Is it true that the hotel group will expand internationally following the asset recovery?”
“Señora Alvarado, do you have a statement regarding your ex-husband’s sentence?”
Mariana stopped at the top of the steps, adjusting her dark sunglasses as she looked out over the bustling avenue of Paseo de la Reforma. She raised one gloved hand slightly, and the frantic shouting of the press corps instantly quieted into a respectful hush.
“The legal chapter concerning corporate misconduct has reached its final conclusion,” Mariana said, her voice clear, calm, and commanding. “The Gran Hotel Alvarado group remains stronger, more independent, and more committed to excellence than ever before. We look forward to our next chapter of growth, anchored in integrity, transparency, and strength.”
Without waiting for further questions, she turned and walked down the steps toward her waiting black town car, accompanied by Octavio Barrios.
As the car pulled away from the curb and merged into the smooth flow of city traffic, Mariana looked out the window at the familiar landmarks of Mexico City—the soaring monument of the Angel of Independence, the lush green trees of Chapultepec Park, and the gleaming glass towers of the financial district.

“Where to, Señora?” the driver asked respectfully through the partition.
“Home, Miguel,” Mariana said softly, a small, genuine smile gracing her lips. “Let’s go home.”
