Chapter 10 - Unbroken Horizons

One year later.

The morning ocean breeze rolled over the high cliffs of the Castello estate, carrying the sweet fragrance of blooming lavender and fresh pine. The storm clouds that used to define the estate’s skyline were long gone, replaced by endless blue skies and brilliant sunlight.

Sadie stood on the wide stone balcony outside Victor’s private study—the balcony overlooking the grand gardens and the shimmering sea beyond.

She wore a soft white linen dress, her bare feet resting against the warm stone floor. Resting comfortably in her arms was a three-month-old baby girl, wrapped in a soft cashmere blanket, sleeping peacefully against her chest. The baby had a tuft of dark hair and small, delicate features—a perfect blend of her mother’s grace and her father’s strength.

The glass doors behind her slid open softly.

Victor stepped onto the balcony, wearing a loose white shirt and trousers, holding two mugs of warm tea. He set the mugs down on a small wrought-iron table and stepped up behind Sadie, wrapping his massive arms gently around her waist and resting his chin against her shoulder.

He looked down at his sleeping daughter, his tough, battle-scarred face melting into an expression of pure, unadulterated devotion.

“Is Clara sleeping?” Victor whispered softly.

“She just went down,” Sadie smiled, leaning her head back against his chest, feeling the steady, reassuring thud of his heartbeat. “She has your stubbornness, Victor. She refused to close her eyes until she saw the ocean.”

Victor let out a soft, low chuckle, kissing Sadie’s temple. “She’s a Castello. What did you expect?”

Out on the lower lawn, Sam was helping Marco adjust the wooden frame of a new garden gazebo. Their laughter floated up on the morning breeze, light, easy, and completely free of fear.

Victor looked out over the sprawling estate, then turned to look at his wife. He reached down, his thumb gently caressing the smooth, unblemished skin of Sadie’s cheek.

“Sometimes,” Victor murmured softly, “I look at those heavy mahogany doors inside my study, and I remember the night you collapsed on the carpet.”

Sadie turned slightly in his arms, offering him a warm, radiant smile that completely illuminated the balcony.

“I thought my life was over that night, Victor,” she whispered gently. “I thought I was dropping to my knees to give up.”

Victor leaned down, pressing his lips softly against hers in a long, tender, passionate kiss that tasted of sweet tea and morning sun.

When he pulled back, his dark eyes were shining with deep, eternal devotion. “You weren't giving up, Sadie,” he said softly, cradling her and their daughter close against his heart. “You were just knocking on the right door.”

Together, they stood on the balcony, wrapped in each other's arms under the brilliant morning sun, watching the clear, unbroken horizon of the life they had built together.
