Chapter 10 - The Quiet Current Prevails

The knife was moving at terrifying speed. For anyone else in the room, it would have been an inescapable death sentence.

Even Alexander started to move, but I was already there.

Using the foundational principles of the Quiet Current, I didn't try to block or meet the Butcher’s massive physical force head-on. Instead, I stepped smoothly into his blind spot, my left hand shooting out with lightning precision to catch his wrist mid-swing.

I absorbed his forward momentum, twisted my hips, and used his own massive weight against him.

Whoosh.

With a sharp, fluid rotation, I redirected his entire body weight downward, sweeping his right ankle with a precise, low kick.

The Butcher let out a stunned grunt as gravity betrayed him. He crashed face-first onto the pristine marble floor with a bone-rattling thud that shook the crystal glasses on the nearby tables.

Before his two thugs could pull their hidden firearms, Marcus Vance and four Ashford tactical security guards dropped down from the mezzanine balcony like shadows, pinning both men to the floor in a matter of seconds, disarming them before they could even draw their weapons.

Silence slammed back down over the ballroom—a heavy, stunned silence filled only by the heavy breathing of the defeated enforcer groaning on the floor.

The Butcher struggled to push himself up, his nose bleeding, looking up at me with sheer disbelief. “What... what the hell kind of fighting style was that?”

I stood over him, my posture completely relaxed, my breathing steady.

“The Quiet Current,” I answered quietly.

Alexander stepped forward, looking down at the groaning assassin with cold, unyielding pity. He then turned his gaze to the hundreds of elite guests staring in absolute awe from the edges of the ballroom.

“Ladies and gentlemen,” Alexander’s voice resonated powerfully across the hall, carrying the unshakeable authority of a true king. “The Ashford empire is not for sale. And neither is our honor.”

He turned to me, offering his hand with a warm, genuine smile that the underworld had not seen in decades.

I took his hand.

My father’s sacrifice had not been in vain. The debt had been repaid, not with blood and vengeance, but with loyalty, truth, and the unbroken legacy of the Quiet Current.

As the applause slowly began to rise from the crowd, I knew that our new life had finally begun—safe, strong, and unshakeable.
